Beauty of Delhi would increase 10 times if something could be done with the hanging wires
@newdelhibharat11 сағат бұрын
I completely understand your concern. The visual impact of hanging wires can indeed detract from the beauty of our city. I truly appreciate your suggestion and hope that the relevant authorities will consider initiatives to improve the aesthetic appeal of Rajouri Garden and Delhi. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful insight.

@newdelhibharat4 күн бұрын
The nearest metro stations to reach Sadar Bazar are: 1. Tis Hazari Metro Station (1.5 km) 2. R K Ashram Marg Metro Station (1.5 km) Both stations are equidistant. Afterward, take an e-rickshaw for a convenient and affordable ride to Sadar Bazar.

@@newdelhibharat hope the civic authorities pay better attention to this place . Markets if not maintained properly, get exposed to hazards and arr vulnerable to disasters.
@newdelhibharat4 күн бұрын
Proper maintenance and upkeep of markets like Sadar Bazar are crucial for ensuring public safety and preventing disasters. I hope the authorities take your concerns seriously and take necessary actions. Furthermore, the old buildings in this market desperately need repair and reconstruction work. To further improve the area, I suggest the following: 1. Implementing a no-traffic zone, which would prohibit cars and two-wheelers, reducing congestion and pollution. 2. Allowing only manual carts or electric vehicles to ferry goods, promoting a cleaner and safer environment. 3. Developing multi-level parking facilities in nearby areas to accommodate visitors vehicles, reducing parking chaos and encouraging more foot traffic for local businesses.

Now, election posters, banners and pamphlets are increasingly appearing as the polling date of February 5th approaches. This adds to the workload of MCD staff, who must dismantle illegal advertisements. Sometimes, they pick them up, while others are left lying on the middle of the road or flyovers.

Appreciate the steady camera. If you get a chance to return to Defence Colony in March, do check out some of the parks which come alive with the blooms of spring. The best ones are in C block - two south of the main market, and two north of the market. There is also a large one in D block to the west of the petrol pump. Also, NDMC plants tulips which can be seen along Shanti Path in Chanakya Puri and the roundabout just South East of the American embassy. I think the peak season is around Jan end or early Feb - though each year it can vary a little depending on the weather. Further south is the rose garden, Further East is the Nehru Park which is at its best in March. You can use Google maps for precise locations.

@shishirthadani Thank you for the wonderful suggestions! I'll definitely keep them in mind for a future visit to Defence Colony in March. The parks in C block and D block sound lovely, and I'll make sure to check them out. The tulips along Shanti Path and near the American embassy are a great tip - I'll try to catch them in peak season. And I'll also explore the rose garden and Nehru Park, which sound stunning in March. Thanks for sharing your local knowledge and helping me improve my content.

Nothing colonial about the area. It has gradually morphed into a rich neighborhood with an Indian take on late 20th C and early 21st C architecture. Just a few European-style style homes left - but it was NEVER British-Colonial built or inspired. In any case, (with few exceptions) British Indian architecture was inexcusably drab and boring. Vietnam with its French Colonial, or Philippines with its Spanish Colonial are far more interesting. Goa with its Portuguese Colonial influence, or Pondicherry with its French Colonial influence are also far more interesting.

You bring a nuanced perspective to the table. I appreciate your correction about Defence Colony's architecture, highlighting its Indian influences and evolution over time. Your comment about British Indian architecture being "drab and boring" is an interesting point and I agree that other colonial influences, like those in Vietnam, Philippines, Goa and Pondicherry, have resulted in more distinctive and fascinating architectural styles. Thank you for adding depth to the conversation.

p.s. Some people like the British Colonial heritage in Kolkata. For me, some of it is OK. But it is not really my taste. I would grant that Mumbai's colonial heritage is more interesting, but that is because it integrates the British and Maratha traditions, and is quite unique to Mumbai and Maharashtra. Ironically, British colonial art historians refer to Mumbai's most interesting structures as Indo-Saracenic, which completely ignores the very obvious Maratha influence. Although the Marathas were politically defeated, their cultural influence did not just disappear, as too many British art historians still like to project,

@shishirthadani1696 Fascinating insights. I completely agree with you about the unique blend of British and Maratha traditions in Mumbai's colonial heritage, making it stand out. The term "Indo-Saracenic" does seem to overlook the significant Maratha influence. It's essential to acknowledge and appreciate the cultural contributions of the Marathas, despite their political defeat. Your commentary highlights the importance of nuanced understanding and representation of India's rich cultural heritage.
