I went ahead and dropped the steering column and removed the steering power motor to find out there is no coupler but a splined shaft 😢. 2013 Sante Fe 2.0T with the same issue. It’s amplified when applying the brakes sometimes.

Very informative. Will attempt to install the coupler cushion tomorrow in my Santa Fe I bought new. It only has 60K miles on it. Pitiful engineering to have such a weak point in a place so hard to get to. I'm definitely not a Hyundai fan. My first and most likely last Hyundai product. Thanks for taking your time to post this video! Great job!

I followed this video and fixed the coupler. No more clunking steering wheel! $12 part from AutoZone. Only issue is that my airbag light stays on. I disconnected the negative terminal before doing any work or undoing the harnesses underneath the steering wheel. Anybody have issues with that? All the cables looked like they were intact and I made sure everything was plugged back in correctly. When I scanned With my OBD tool, I got a “resistance too high” code. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for this helpful video!

Oh and your spark plug socket. The term is Thin Wall. MatCo makes a great 9" extension with magnetic sparkplug socket set in 3/8. Price is around 250-350 for lifetime tools but depending on your vendor can be sold separately at a much lower price for job needed. Tools make all the difference. Another handy used tool for nissan engine work is a 16" 1/4"drive ratchet with flex head for pulley bolts that are low torqued or a 16" 3/8"drive ratchet with flex head for same tight long fits but at higher torque Matco/Snapon/Caldwell/Capri make these. Ever changing your headers look into half-moon wrench sets (Sunex-Snapon-Matco)will save your day. And you can never be without XL off-set ratcheting wrench sets Perfect for many tight spot with minimal swing-arc clearance. Surprisingly Gearwrench makes a great set up to 24mm for around 250. Compared to usually 500 to 800 bucks from Snapon/Matco while just as good. If you do any suspension work. Great wrenches are a must.

I'm a VW mechanic for the last 2 years, no formal schooling all self taught except for new VW specific certifications. Watching your video for an easier time to see the process through on my 2010 max. I noticed you organize your disassembly by numbering hoses and parts you remove. I laughed, I thought I was the only one anal enough to do such things. But you know what with every job I have done Ive never had an issue with forgetting something on big engine or suspension jobs. This happens alot in many shops, especially when your tasked with multiple bays and jobs. Great Vid. Your car is a set of legos. Take it apart well and it will go back together well.

I am facing the issue of occasional left pulling in Hyundai Elantra after calibrating the steering angle sensor as well, it is any symptom of bad flexible coupling..
@ronsteffen59623 жыл бұрын
Many models over several years have this issue. Replacement part cheap, $5-$10; time and difficulty to replace, 2-5 yours and very difficult if you have not done it before with all connectors having access issues and different removal methods. To fix, your on your back under the steering wheel. When this part is degraded it represents a serious hazard and frankly it should be a recall item; the manufacturer should not continue to produce this part which consistently fails. It is very difficult for an unskilled person to make this repair and if you goof, you will need more parts and double the time to repair.

How Nissan paired this cvt trans with this engine application blows my mind. Your cvt is basically done after this happens. Hope you were able to get it fixed through warranty because the trans will have to be replaced
@MrPatdeeee4 жыл бұрын
The reason for them doing this is monetary. A CVT transmission is cheaper to build than the standard AT (planetary gear transmission). But the CVT from the beginning was KNOW to have problems. It is a peace of garbage. And is MUCH costlier to diagnose the problem; not to mention repair it. Yes, you will hear "glory" stories and some do well. But most do not experience that. My Nissan Maxima was bad from the day I bought it brand new. Nissan refused to doing anything about it. They said, "It was normal". Yet the CVT vibrates the entire car between 20 to 30 RPM. I hate it. Than I found out that there is NOTHING that can be done about it; except change the transmission; but they refuse. They say "Learn to gun the engine and you won't have the vibration". That is true, but I have never (88 yrs old now) gunned an engine in ALL of the cars I have ever had. Sad indeed. I suggest that a buyer choose the "Toyota Avalon" (same elite car like the Nissan Maxima) with the standard transmission. It easily gets 300,000+ miles; and rarely a transmission problem. Oh indeed. I haven't the money so I have to live with the peace of crap. For what it's worth.

Also. Better to go to a local Mivhanic. Shop around job cost about $100. $120. Cus this car from 2009. Up is more work Also don’t buy cheap Ebay mounts btr to get a. Use Oem mount from eBay that will last u at lease 5 Years then a Afther market that brake in 5 months

Hi Eric I have a 07 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SL and I'm having similar problems the whining yes I paid about 200+ for a sensor and had it installed 5 mos later it's back and now its sounds like it's in high gear in when I get to 3 so I started shifting out Manually even though I can hear it change out to 3 again from there its a light feel when shifting to 4 to 5 and still that whining sound its like stress on the transmission do you have any idea what's wrong???? I also notice that it will smokes after I get off the freeway
