I first met Bob at Ogden Highschool. We both used the same place to change out of our ROTC uniforms. We were the only guys that thought to do this. He always had a big smile and was upbeat. One afternoon, up at SnowBasin I bumped into him again and he spent the afternoon teaching me how to ski better. He was always a step above upbeat, and really brave and admired, and a hoot to be around. Ski in peace, Bob. -John Lyon PS. His younger sister Becky is a babe!

I’m 55 years old this year 2024 and I remember this skit so vividly and I’ve told people for years it’s my best funniest one ever !! I remember all the variety shows from my youth going over to my Granma and Granpas for Sunday supper and watching all the shows … Carol Burnette show … Dean Martin and Jerry .. The Lawrence Welk show … Hee Haw .. all of them … the last 3 generations don’t know the talent and humour they’ve missed .. ear tug

When Tim laughs at what he is about to say, before he even says it, the rest of the cast must know they are in trouble 😂

Unrelated but this brings back another memory of when Eunice performed on the Gong Show and she quickly got the gong. I don't recall if that was on the Carol Burnett show or after Mama's family got it's own show but that specific scene taught me a lot about empathy.

I recall that my parents disliked these characters because of how ugly and rude they were to each other. But they were laughing as hard as anybody else at this skit. The Carol Burnett show, The Smothers Brothers, Laugh-in. These shows were my introduction to sketch comedy and i consider myself very lucky to have grown up with them.

Who would have thought that Tim spent all that time being the straight man for Vicki Lawrence to knock them all down.

With just 7 words she blew three comic legends flat out. If that hadn't been their last year I can't imagine the monster of comedy they'd have unleashed there.

It seems that you have fond memories of Ogden. I personally do not. I once heard that Ogden is the city that will work for food. I have to agree with that statement. As I have grown up and literally lived in 5 different states and 6 major cities, I learned that Ogden some how is a real blight. Not sure what to tell you. Recently, I drove down Washington Blvd and found it sadly worse. My understanding is that the city council has tried scheme after scheme but nothing really sticks. Maybe they are incompetent, or maybe Ogden is cursed… ether way, I am glad not to live there anymore.

Reminds me of one time when Carson introduced a young comic and the camera cut to him on the stage, long hair, wire rim glasses, wearing running shoes and athletic shorts with bandaging tape on his chest, one centered vertical stripe and a few horizontal ones, and he's holding a spear and has this bone thing in his nose that looks like a little Texas longhorn, and he starts doing a standard, uninspired stand up routine, throwaway one-liners. After a few of these, he says, "You realize I'm the only thing on NBC right now? This is NBC's idea of entertainment." Camera cuts to Johnny Carson falling off his chair laughing
