Thankss, I was planning to make heart shaped christmas cookies for me and my girlfriend but I didn’t want to cut them vertically because that would resemble a broken heart. So (because of your simplifying & logical way of teaching) I am one step closer to finding the middle line of a heart horizontally

I teach Algebra 1 and something I'm struggling with is the fact that, for linear functions in particular, it's ambiguous to say that the translation from the parent function is vertical versus horizontal. If f(x)=x, then the inputs ARE the outputs, so f(x+k) and f(x)+k are identical. It seems like we're supposed to teach the kids that putting parentheses around the x-h term indicates that we're changing the inputs, and leaving the parentheses out changes the outputs, but clearly y=(x+1) and y=x+1 are the same thing. I'm glad that you address this at 8:37 but I still think it's confusing for my kids who aren't really comfortable with function notation in general. I think it's actually more clear when there's a multiplier, e.g. f(x)=3(x-1) and g(x)=3x-1 are different.
