To the UFL, for the 2025 season, if you expand the league, could you please bring back the Tampa Bay Bandits. The city of Tampa would give far more support than cities such as Arlington, Memphis, and especially Birmingham.

After hearing the story of how Richard Spenard was going to try to make it to a 2nd race the same day (I'm assuming to Shannonville), I'm now curious to know if he ended up making it.

Richard Spenard and Claude Bourbonnais are two of the greatest Canadian drivers that never really got a chance. Rick Bye is severely under-rated, and Proulx is a very sad story - what a talent. Tennyson was a rookie this year right? One of the best gentlemen drivers (love that Denon money eh Dad?) Watching this, IMSA GTO/GTU, and Trans-Am at Mosport is what cemented me as a Sportscar Racing fan for life - thanks for the nostalgia! Have to admit, when I started smoking cigarettes at 10 years old in 1990 I always wanted Rothman's - guess advertising works.

I was a ball boy for the Bandits during the '84 season. It was an amazing experience for a 15 year old kid. We loved Mr. Bassett. We all hated he who's name I spit with a passion. I still have my copy of the letter he sent to he who's name I spit where Mr. Bassett told him if he heard him berating anyone again he'd punch his ass in the face. The Bandits were the best organization in the league. Only team that stayed where they were founded and led the league in attendance (40,000 average) every season. The Bandits were the only team not to be apart of the stupidest move ever made, sueing the NFL. That was all he who's name I spit's doing. Mr. Bassett lost his battle with cancer and the league died. When he who's name I spit dies I'm going to take an enormous dump on his grave. Long live the Tampa Bay Bandits and God rest Mr. Bassett's soul.

I like Burt but to call himself partners with Bassett is not fair to J.Bassett who financed majority of team and only brought in Reynolds as publicity and his florida st connections.

I was in middle school when USFL first started and i was a Panthers fan and my brother a Bandits fan and watched all Bandits game and recorded everything USFL on VHS and show called this is the USFL and Bandits sure were exciting and Bassett knew football and how to run a franchise and league , i have an episode about an hour on Bandits 1985 season and has a lot of John Bassett in this video and he was such a cool but hard nosed man but seemed so humble and genuinely great man ... read his letter to Donald Trump and shows his instincts to know what a pos man acts like and he saw Trump as trash and a coward and John Bassett was a great Man . i remember him fondly from my childhood and wanted to write my memories of him here and honor him .

1983, best team in one pro football league was Tampa Bay, the worst team in another pro football league was Tampa Bay. Shocked the Bandits didn't make a play for Doug Williams, he would put fans in the seats.

Man, names like Bye, Goodyear, Spenard and Villeneuve! They don't even mention Rothmans on Jacques' wiki!!! I used to go to Heimrarh Porsche in the 90's (Lawrence near Victoria Park in Scarborough) to look at cars, I think this race car was there too!

Burt was different in his interviews at this time compared to his seventies and eighties talkshows, especially the Carson one,s he just didn't seem very happy or fun anymore,I know he wasn't at his peak any more,he was number in the seventies and early eighties,and in these interviews he wasn't in the top 50 anymore,,shame that,it shows that he's not the same guy,the happy go lucky guy is gone,still looks well,
@coldwinter57102 жыл бұрын
Burt was always a very shy & sensitive guy, deep down. He was often uncomfortable when discussing his acting directly. His time on The Tonight Show showed off his fun loving side & he played along w/Johnny always, as he was extremely witty & they were good friends. This was not that kind of an interview.

He was in a lot of pain for years due to his broken jaw. Plus he went through an horrendous divorce. This would sap the joy and exuberance out of any one.
