I bought in 2002 via internet 2 tenon saws from them and in 2007 i visited thw plant and was able to buy 2 dovetail saws. Lovely saws, i still use them every day in my workshop 👍

One feature it has is a very fast reverse function. Rolling plate, the larger the area exposed to the air the quicker the plate looses heat. So a fast reverse between plate passing through the rolls allows retention of heat (heat can be induced by the rolling process) and getting thickness and area in the one reheat of the ingot/billet. The ships plate are also impact resisting and the finished plates would require the correct heat treatment for the properties required. From a time originally when ship plate was riveted, newer ships being welded need a different steel.

I inherited a little collection of scissors & the level of craftsmanship isnt lost on me. Some date back to the '40s, maybe older.

The Threads movie brought the Egg Box to a much wider audience. Not being from Sheffield, I will always associate the Egg Box with the Threads movie, although I think I once saw the building in real life when taking a daytrip to Sheffield many years ago (before seeing the Threads movie).

I haven't seen anyone spinning since I was 17, I'm a Sheffielder and worked at PMC (pewter manufacturing company) and the firm had 3 spinners, they were like lightening spinning the bases for tankards, on piece work. I worked on a lathe trapping the bases onto the rims of pewter/silver plated serving trays. I also worked on a revolving polisher and did stamping aswell. Great to see this.

Actually silver plated on copper trays! Pewter tankards.

When you buy Chinese scissors, you may think that you're getting a deal but actually you're forcing up the price of gasoline. And, as the Russians say, cheap is expensive.

I first encountered Andy Cropper's artwork in the Folk Horror Revival book 'Urban Wyrd 2: Spirits of Place' and I've been a fan ever since. His paintings perfectly capture the eerie half-life of the city at night.

It was wonderful to watch in action but we were told in 2021 that at £300 per day to run, the museum won't be running the engine daily. It was so impressive that my wife applauded the performance. Good on her. The staff said that shots down the crankshaft were used in the movie Titanic.

I enjoyed this but it is disappointing to not see any named credits for the craftspeople we can see and admire here without whom the brands and values mentioned would simply wither.

I had a Joseph Rogers knife when I was a teenager; 40 years ago. I remember it being well made and keeping its edges well. I am so sad that I don't know where it went. It had two blades and ebony wood scales.

Must be about 6-7 years ago when I phoned Thomas Flinn to ask if they could make me a hybrid saw? As a furniture restorer I come against mixed soft and hardwood all of the time so having one saw that can cope with anything is really handy. Chris, just happened to be in the office so Katie handed me to over him. I explained what I wanted and two weeks later it arrived in the post.

My first job when I left school. Was working for a company in London. Whitey plate works. In Hackney road. To solder things together we had town gas and foot operated bellows . That was over 50 years ago.
