The best thing about RMDs is that you can take it in December and withhold Federal and State total taxes, money you have used for the year.

Hi Jaime, if the annuity is set up as IRA, then the IRS annual contribution limit applied. And if it’s IRA, the funds need to come from earned income/paycheck. You can also set up non-qualified annuity, the funds can be coming from savings or other investments. Non-qualified annuity does not have contribution limit.

But every year what ever we earn ; we will have to pay tax. And so this way we cannot make money as you say.

You stated incorrectly at the beginning: that rate of return divided by 72 is the way to calculate this rule of thumb; but later reversed it to be 72 divided by the rate of return. Obviously the later is true. 72/rate of return. Heads up.
