I”m new with the s5iix. With my Gh5ii I was used to use manual focus. The other day I took the S5iix and took some photos. Wanted to try the manual focus and the AF. To my surprise, although the AF went as a breeze, I found very hard to nail the focus in manual mode compared to the Gh5ii. I don’t know why. Maybe it was an issue with the Sigma 28 to 70? What do you think?
@FourKnown21 сағат бұрын
One correction. On Lumix cameras the continuous position on the back of the camera has always been for photo mode only. I just leave mine on the S mode for video with continuous AF.
@Studiotek5 сағат бұрын
Kind of... There is actually a setting in the menu, under video, where you can turn continuous AF on or off. By default, it is already on, and a lot of people don't realize this and wonder why the AF keeps tracking when they are on AFS.

Is that actually true? I thought it was like that just for 1080p50p and it worked for 60p. I could be wrong though, as I am not British, so I use NTSC and only shoot 4k
@pashavybach5 сағат бұрын
@Studiotek Sad but true. In S9 they fix it so it must be firmware problem, but no one talk about it and panasonic don't care. in APSC PDAF works well but you get FF not to shoot APSC. So for weddings and sports shooter its quite a problem.

I was like you on Continuous AF mode where I liked to see it focusing even when I wasn't recording, but one reason I switched back to Continuous AF mode 1 is if you are shooting handheld take a shot, but then let your hand drop for a bit till you take another shot, often the camera picks something close to focus on, and when you bring the camera back up, now your camera is out of focus from where you were previously shooting. Situations I often find myself in is if I'm shooting sports or wildlife. I'm recording something far away, play stops, I let the camera fall to the side, it AFs the ground, then I pick up the camera again as play resumes, now I lose a few seconds as the camera tries to figure out where I'm focusing back across the field. But it's great that Lumix gives us options! So we can adapt our cameras to whatever situation we find ourselves in. Thanks for the great video!

@MatthewDangyou8 күн бұрын
On thing to consider (unless you want the specs and video capabilities of the GH7) the S9 being the same mount can fit that category a little better potentially. I have been using mine for interviews as a c cam or a bts cam but mainly for travel. Then you also don’t have to buy new lenses. I like telling people regardless to support some creator (doesn’t have to be me!) but using affiliate links when purchasing big ticket items to give some creator some kickback when you do purchase👍🏻😅 Hope that helps!
@BenPhanStudios8 күн бұрын
@@MatthewDangyouthanks brother! I'll absolutely keep that in mind about affiliate links. S9 is interesting, I don't like that it doesn't have an EVF though. Also , I feel that using FF glass might defeat the point of having a small camera. I actually already own a G85 and a couple M43 lens which I use for travel. Lot to consider!
@MatthewDangyou8 күн бұрын
@@BenPhanStudios Oh then if you already have MFT glass the GH7 is a powerhouse. I like it specifically for 4K 120fps shots when I need it as a speciality camera but that is also a luxury to say I do realize. But for travel I actually still prefer the S9 though for the body design with the 18-40. Been looking at those sigma art primes too

I used the same aperture and the same equivalent focal lengths throughout this video. 12-35 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8
@LadyBovine9 күн бұрын
I keep hearing (like here) that MFT has, for example, f/2.8 light gathering with the depth of field of f/5.6, beneficial in some situations, like it's some magical inherent benefit to MFT. But full frame is also supposed to have better high* ISO performance, because of 4x as large sensor area. So couldn't one just bring the Full frame camera and lens up to 5.6, boost the ISO two stops, and achieve pretty much the same exact result? This whole "the light gathering is the same" that's repeated everywhere, *seems* like nonsense to me if noise, color, and DR performance is about two stops worse on MFT. It seems like the "benefit" would be cancelled out. I wonder about this, as someone who uses m43 cameras only. Any insights on this from real world experience? (I know theoretical and real world, are very different, and that even there theory is more complicated when dealing with so many variables as you find in camera sensors and lenses.)
@MatthewDangyou9 күн бұрын
Yeah the main real issue is autofocus performance when you start adapting. Like right now on the top line MFT from Lumix PDAF cameras are really good in AF so sure you can sacrifice your AF performance when adapting, or you can get cine lenses BUT one big advantage for a ton of MFT shooters is the size and size of lenses so the moment you start comparing it in that realm then you end up with full frame glass on MFT camera to get a full frame look. Sounds easier just to get a full frame camera with a full frame lens then for easier results. Hence why comparing native lenses vs adapting

so, the G7 mark II should basically be a G90/G95/G97 with PDAF
@omkarbhoir670410 күн бұрын
Hi I have questions In Lumix G9ii Do any of this feature have any compromise or disable while recording video in any video formats like prores or high frame rates modes Waveform, zebra, histogram, spot metering, log view assist. In my camera 90D when I hit record button the histogram goes away and way to accurately get the exposure.
@MatthewDangyou10 күн бұрын
None of that goes away, however the G9ii does not have a fan so you can run into overheating. But the GH7 if you are looking more for video has the same photo specs as the G9ii but a bigger powerhouse in video. Don’t have to use mine but definitely should use some creators affiliate link to support them though👍🏻 hope that was helpful 😊

@MatthewDangyou11 күн бұрын
I believe you would need the XLR 2 unit and plug into the 3.5mm jack. BUT I am not 100% sure if that records 32 bit float into that jack specifically though so I would ask Sean on Lumix Live on Thursday about that question

It's absolutely not wrong to get free gear. When it starts to be wrong when you advertise them like, "YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS" etc when you did not pay for it and we small human beings working our asses off to get 1 lens then we cannot afford to buy 6 lens.
@crisrocchi272212 күн бұрын
Good thing I saw this video! I was about to buy a used GH6, but I looked into the issue with streaking and found out that for many people it's a major problem (and it has often been returned or sold because of this issue). It's a shame, because otherwise it seemed like a really great deal!

If Lumix had fast lenses like the ZVe10 system it would be a killer. For $250 up can get a wide angle f1.2 or f1.4 lens. A fast zoom like the 17-70 at f2.8 is like $500. Lumix lenses are expensive. They are limited. I mean their f4 lenses are $700+. For $900 the Lumix is a better camera. But the ZVE10ii at the same price allows you to have a set-up for peanuts.

S9 more than replaced my aging GX9. And also together with affordable and light f4 Pana S zooms can compete with my GH7 and Pana-Leica f1.7 zooms. The only thing MFT form factor is clearly better at is ergonomic/quality/lightweight Pana-Leica long zooms.
@Lepewhi18 күн бұрын
If the S9 had a hotshoe, I'd be interested. And, it is expensive as are the lenses. So, I'll stay with my M4/3 G9, which is enough camera for me.

Nice video, Matthew. Have you found a LUT that effectively emulates Fuji Velvia?
@MatthewDangyou19 күн бұрын
Well, personally speaking if you mixed the Gold with Superia luts using the 2 lut feature and changed the opacity you might be actually about to closely replicate that look. That isn't even something I tested with these Luts yet, but I do believe you can get even cooler unique results doing so.

I don’t think it is a Fuji killer. Fuji’s is building their film profile putting in in digital cameras with vintage style look and buttons like the X-T lines, X-Pro and X-E . It is a package of vintage look, feel and Fujifilm film look. No vintage look means no vintage feeling.

I've had the Lumix S9 for about a month now, and no matter what settings I try, the grain just doesn't look as good as Fuji's. If I had to describe it, I'd say the Lumix grain looks like a generic layer of noise (even with the color noise turned off and the grain set to low), while the Fuji grain feels more incorporated to the image and has an "organic" response to highlights and shadows, which is the most overused word in photography but actually feels appropriate. I still think the S9 and S5ii have excellent colors, but the grain is just off.
@MatthewDangyou20 күн бұрын
Yeah, I had it in the video originally then I cut it out but I would like more control like the lut with opacity to adjust the grain similar to the app
@mikenicholas837520 күн бұрын
@@MatthewDangyou I tried the app too, I still don't love the Lumix grain; coming from Fuji GFX and X series it always feels more like Lumix just slapped it on top. However, the filmic colors are excellent on that lumix sensor!
