Am I wrong, or is that thing just an overpriced shell around Supervolcano innards?
@rackrobo10 күн бұрын
That's a good question. From our experience in AM, it is better than a normal supervolcano. The heat break and copper body are huge value adds for quality. For what it's worth, we don't make money from this product.

@@rackrobo Good to know. So, the metal reinforcement is for wear durability and weight?
@rackrobo16 күн бұрын
@@Jeff-ss6qt Oh sorry, misunderstood your question. For the part in this video, there is a long lever arm that is acted upon by a spring. This can cause creep over time with just plastic. The metal reinforcement effectively stops this creep and allows higher forces on the top end.

I was planning on buying only the power supply and all EDM specialty parts without any printer specific parts since I'm planning to build my own machine around the power supply etc. Your videos so far made me understand a lot better how to design the EDM machine and which parts are critical to wear. As much as I like the offering of software, it's really a world on its own and I think the software, even though it's good, is probably going to need some love ;) My machine is still far from being built, this is a project for Q1 or Q2 2025, but I'm thinking of building my own GCODE generator meanwhile as I've previously already done because I'm quite demanding in this area. This will be done in Grasshopper, meaning I can both create and export my designs directly from Grasshopper. What makes this a powerful combination is that within Grasshopper, you can simply add nodes to add functions. Things like object avoidance can be implemented as well, to turn it into a simple tool that doesn't require too much attention. I can even add a 3D visualization and path planner. It's going to be a rough job, but I'm pretty sure I can even make it so that I can import a 3D model and that it will automatically understand what side needs to be cut so there's no need for a DXF export. I'm based in the EU, so I haven't ordered yet, but I'm also curious if there are going to be future revisions to the PSU and other parts. ps one of the key reasons I want to DIY my own machine is because the other model uses a US-sized fishtank. But these tanks do not exist in the same size in the metric EU as far as I could see. So I'm going to source a container locally, that I can also easily replace if needed.
@rackrobo21 күн бұрын
The software definitely needs some work. We're currently working on our own ground-up CAM program for 4-axis WEDM. We're certainly excited to see what you come up with as far as CAM goes! The current Powercore V2 should be compatible with European wall voltage. We specifically selected a wide input-voltage supply for this reason. We will ensure that units shipped to the EU have the appropriate plug. That's great info on the tank situation in the EU. We're going to be looking into this. May require a different set of CAD models in order to be compliant with locally available containers. So far, the CAD is parametric. We may need to have slightly different lengths on some of the hardware. Either that, or just accept an undersized machine to tank ratio.

As a CNC machinist by trade, I would suggest to make sure you always include a decimal in your feed rates. On FANUC based controls, which are used in HAAS machines it can cause the GCODE execution to halt. I'm not well versed on Klipper so I don't know how it will react, I'm sure someone with more experience can chime in.
@rackrobo21 күн бұрын
Good catch! So far we haven't found this to be an issue with Klipper, but we'll definitely keep an eye out to see if it causes problems.

Hey! I‘m preparing to buy your kit in hopefully the next couple months, depending on how much money I make 😁 Some questions: You use klipper here - is the klipper config file public? So I was watching a video by SciCynical inventing about creating his own shredding machine for plastic. And previously had watched another couple videos about people trying to make their own plastic shredders to deal with 3-D filament recycling. When are the issues that comes up is having to get different type of blades made or screws made and I was wondering if maybe your EDM technology would be a cost-effective for people to cut blades for shredding machines instead of having to get laser cut ones done. Edit: I was specifically thinking about the housing he had to have laser cut and that he would be able to cut his own blades a stack of them at a time.

6:53 You don't have to be super scientific, but this is just ridiculous. "I got an unknown amount of filament through it in an unknown amount of time using a method nobody ever uses in any kind of controlled way that would make it possible to use as a reference for anything at all". At the very least hook up sone standard extruder to it and test the force required at some speed, or how much actual filament got through when trying to extrude a specific amount at increasingly short times. Or, like, anything that can be compared to anything, and then.. get this... actually *do* compare it to some standard hotend.

For anyone wondering, the reason aluminum (t6 hardened) needs to be quenched to be workable is because T6 aluminum gains its strength and hardness from small precipitates that form in the crystal as it slowly cools. Cooling it quickly prevents these precipitates from forming, as the now evenly distributed solute (not-Al) atoms don't have time to come together again, therefore it's much softer.

@PiGoodАй бұрын
Part of the striations are due to the resistance changes from the different thickness and materials. Some of it is tension since you don't have an active tension system to compensate for the wire elongation and lack a despoiling motor to remove the inconsistent resistance and weight of the spool from the equation. Also your flushing pressure, combined with flow turbulence will be moving the wire about. That is a big part of why you would normally do a rough cut and then finish skims in industrial machines. I would agree that lack of a second wire guide combined with the run out of the bearing is not helping matters either. Love the progress you guys are making, just a long way to go to catch up with industrial machines.

How long did it take to cut out this part? I'm thinking about buying a wire EDM machine, but I'm inexperienced with the cutting speed
@rackroboАй бұрын
The flow test mount took about 20 minutes to cut. Very easy to cut complex shapes in aluminum plate. The Chube took probably 2 hours of constant cutting all together. Copper is very resistant to EDM cutting (because of its electrical properties) and it was a really thick section. Even steel would have been faster than copper here.
