Should be in high range. Had a bonnet fall on my head if a wheel had been fitted it would have killed me low range rarely needed on flat road you could take off in fourth to much reves in first low range snaps the half shaft. Had my 2a swb 1971 for 23. Years

I kept it for 13 years - it was great to have when the family were growing up! The kids all love Landies - they never really forgave me for selling it but sadly it had come to the end of its life!

My favourite vehicle of all time. I have owned a similar Series III Station Wagon as well as a Defender Wagon and many Series I, IIa and III Land Rovers. The 2.286 litre four cylinder motor is great. A bit thirsty but quiet and quite torquey. The old 6 cylinder is smooth but pretty gutless and very thirsty. The four cylinder diesel is great if you are not in a hurry. These days I am driving a Discovery II with the td5 diesel motor. But then, when we really need to go somewhere, we have a Subaru Outback Diesel. It is brilliant. But I really miss my Series I 1952 80 inch which I restored from the chassis up.

Nothing better than seeing one of Solihull's finest in the terrain she was built for, especially when you obviously took some time in the production. she looks great Machinarm. They rattle your teeth, the engine noise is deafening & easily of 'Industrial injury' levels, but as your hearing deteriorates over the years it become more acceptable. Breaking is of the 'Cruise Liner' method, keep looking miles ahead & brake accordingly. They leak fluids like 'The Torrey Canyon,' Keep 'em outside & the window sliders rot & turn green with moss & seize up in a month, Because you're too tight to splash out on a folding step, you're foot continually slips off the greased tow hitch when you climb in the back door, After suddenly realising to your horror that you hadn't engaged the free wheeling hubs two seconds after pulling away in 4WD, you stop suddenly, jump out into 6 inch deep slush, mud or water, engage them & sigh in relief when you realise no damage has been done. Because you love the wheel on the hood look, you accept the herculean effort it takes to lift it & also the potential guillotine now above your head when standing on an aforementioned freewheeling hub to repair the throttle linkage. And all THAT is why I just absolutely adore 'em with a passion.& owned about two dozen of 'em over the last 40 years, best looking vehicle ever designed and no mistake. Form following function, just like all the best designs.
