I'm having difficulty touching both my feet to the ground as I'm short in height. I'm only 5 feet 2 inches😅. I'm trying to learn riding bicycle at the age of 29! What should i do?

Just to add that a front white reflector is only recommended, not mandatory by law in the UK.

As a cyclist, undertaking a vehicle signalling left to turn into a sideroad? 0:59 No matter what the Higheay Code says, i'm not doing that and i'm not encouraging any of my friends to do that.

As a member of cycling UK, I'm definitely not impressed with this. People don't like to be patronised. As a cyclist I feel this video makes me even more of a target.

It doesn't go far enough as there should be a section for passing pedestrians with animals or children on country lanes. It should also promote the wearing of Hi-Viz clothing & lighting at night. Also, cyclists need to be reminded of pedestrians out in the country
@neilrobinson810111 күн бұрын
I think councils should take countryside pedestrians more seriously. If there's multiple houses, there should always be walking access. Whether that's to the local village, or linking with existing access routes - no one should have to walk amongst fast moving traffic. That might not be practical in remote parts, but saving lives shouldn't be a choice of convenience. Around here in a busy cycling area, I almost always get 1.5 metres from cyclists but almost never get 2 metres from cars (or slowing below 30). Obviously the intent of this video is to reduce harm, and I think generally cyclist-pedestrian harm is more common in cities. I'm not saying that cyclists shouldn't be more aware of the rules, but perhaps that awareness is better targeted in cities where cyclists cause more harm. From my experience living on country roads, it's almost 100% of cyclists follow the rules and almost 100% of drivers don't follow the rules. It's not about blame though - many road users aren't aware of the rules and that's why videos like this are important.
@macdodd11 күн бұрын
@@neilrobinson8101 If the DVLA Were on the ball these rule changes would be notified to every driver by an email burst they do have emails for everyone so there should be no problem. I know it's the responsibility of every driver to keep up to date with the Highway Code but seriously how many drivers even look at it after they pass their test. Many of the drivers I see passing me at speed on our country road are younger ones & they seem to think they have the right. to do the speed limit.
@harryrowland473411 күн бұрын
@@macdodd speed limits are part of the problem, speed limits do not reflect the road conditions and drivers mistakenly believe that they can simply drive to the speed limit. I've explained to drivers in the past, that they are driving at inappropriate speeds given the conditions. They had no idea what I was talking about.

@@harryrowland4734 Ditto especially on Country Lanes that are not designated as either A or B Roads. These should be Nationally reduced to 40 all over the country

@macdodd especially on rural roads,the thought of anyone thinking 60mph is okay is terrifying. Might explain the amount of road kill.

super! best training! (All adult training side-wheels pose a major risk to rider safety: cornering is much more difficult than with 2 or 3 wheels. You can only drive very slowly in curves. On uneven terrain you are constantly pushed out of direction. Even large support wheels do not protect against tipping over to the side. Assembly is also difficult because every bike has different struts and angles, but the support wheels have to be aligned exactly parallel to the rear wheel. For children, training wheels are also more likely to prevent them from getting the right sense of balance for riding a bike. Children who are not physically impaired learn much more quickly without training wheels.)

When will the Tweed Valley cycleway be finished and paved from Beggar to Berwick on Tweed? Completion time was stated as 2027. Do you have a progress report? Where can I check the current status? I want to ride it as soon as it is finished and stay off the roads with motor traffic.

Here's a story, a friend of mine doesn't know how to bike, and many of our classmates make fun of him. But the thing is most of the classmates I know don't even know how to balance a bike. So, I told him to speak up for himself, then he said this, right after I told him about that fact. "At least I get to touch a bike!" Then he continued practicing, while I told everyone to also practice, and I will offer teaching service. I know it sounds vague, but aspiring cyclists should accept being fun of, because at the end of the day, you'll prove them wrong.

Cycling UK seems happy to show riders not wearing a helmet which is a shame. Second point would be to recommend having disposable gloves in your kit for removing wheel/shifting the derailleur

The main reasons I never learned to ride a bike? 1. My family was always too poor to afford one growing up. 2. My father had great fear of me getting mugged or getting hit by a car (in NY). 3. Everytime I attempted to ask someone to teach me, they either made fun of me or blew me off thinking I was pretending to not know.
