Hi Clair and Mav, so sorry to hear that Wilson has been diagnosed with DCM, I've had 3 lurcher doberman crosses diagnosed with DCM (diagnosed in 2020), it's a horrible disease. We ended up getting second options on all of them and along our journey we found out that DCM can be a miss diagnosis of Taurine deficiency. Something that is rarely checked but can be common in a number of breeds. Sadly two of our 3 were DCM but 1 was not and was in fact Taurine deficient and her heart had degraded due to this. However with all 3 they got treated with medication to deal with the effects of DCM and heart degeneration, such as heart rate and fluid retention but alongside this we also added plain Taurine powder to their food twice a day... This showed amazing results as it helps to grow and strengthen muscle (e.g the heart) so much so that there was a point where the vets couldn't even tell they had DCM as their hearts sounded so good, sadly it was still there but it meant that they had a much better battle with the disease and their medication didn't have to rule thier lives. Taurine deficiency is definitely something to keep in mind and supplementing Wilson's food with a plain Taurine powder could help slow down the degeneration of his heart, but talk to a vet about this and maybe get him checked for Taurine levels. @@paganprincecrafts6529 we have actually put all of them on taurine supplement and he is getting a bigger dose. I have read that affected right hand side can be numerous things so we are looking into them all 🤞 Thank you so much for your comment xx
