It’s an old vid I know, but just seen this now. What top surface materials have used for the lower shelving?
@Jesusisthe1way
@Jesusisthe1way 2 жыл бұрын
I used pre-made stair treads for each of the shelves. For the wood surface of the hearth I used the thickest high quality wood I could find and reasonably afford. I don’t remember the dimensions but they were sold in individual pieces that were packaged in clear plastic and were from a specific company. I bought three pieces and cut them to size, ensuring that they were all laying flat/flush to the hearth frame before screwing them down. These items were purchased at Lowe’s. I couldn’t find one solid piece that I could use for the hearth that didn’t cost an absolute fortune.

Do you have list of what you used.
@Jesusisthe1way
@Jesusisthe1way 4 жыл бұрын
I wish I had kept a specific list. I know that I used 2 x 4 lumber for the framing and got the straightest boards I could find. I used coated deck screws to put it together along with wood glue to give added strength. I measured two or three times before cutting and pre-fit pieces before permanently attaching. I used OSB for the front of the hearth after framing. I glued and screwed the frame to the frame boards behind the drywall. I used high grade white wood to build the opening just above the mantel. Stained it with walnut stain and and then coated with polyurethane. I used wood filler and sand paper to smooth out imperfections. I found the largest and thickest pieces of high quality wood at Home Depot to cut out, stain, poly coat, and screw down with deco top Alan head screws for hearth top. I prewired with a separately installed circuit (hired an electrician) for electric fireplace. I used stair steps for the shelving units and cut small supports to mount to walls to hold them up. I ordered a premade, unfinished mantel, stained and poly coated it and mounted to frame beneath the opening for speaker and router. I covered upper frame with sheetrock and then covered with Airstone from Lowe’s. I ordered an electric fireplace (Touchstone 60” wide) for wall recess. It was a fulfilling project. Have a blessed day!

I have one standing on my garage because we don't know where to start. My first concern is this... do we need to leave space for the fireplace to not burn the sheet rock? does the heat needs a vent or way of getting out of the wall?

I am hesitant to give you information about your question since I am not on sight for an actual inspection of your situation. I would not want to advise you improperly and end up causing you harm. For my personal situation I read the instructions and warnings in the literature to ensure that the unit met installation requirements. If you don't have the instructions, you might be able to access them via the manufacturer's online website.

Don't worry about those few thumbs down bro. My guess is they are 1. Atheists that don't like your channel name, or 2. Envious contractors. What;s not to like? Its a thing of beauty - excellent work!

@@Jesusisthe1way About how much can I expect to pay if I hire someone to do that job, labor cost? and material cost?
@Jesusisthe1way
@Jesusisthe1way 5 жыл бұрын
@@SaL-ep7zb That is a very good question. I'm thinking materials (including TV and fireplace) cost us around 8 to 9 thousand. It would depend on the contractor, experience level and available tools, etc. I would have charged $4000 plus materials I think.
