I’m still very annoyed about all state this year. I definitely could have made it but I got lazy and didn’t start practicing until August. At least I made all county

Do you have any videos for advanced players on how to methodically identify the tendencies of your particular horn and how to adjust each slide given the trade offs that we have to make for different partials?
@markthirkell7056Ай бұрын
Started as a mature learner 7 years ago. Always on a 4 valve euphonium. I suggest students take the challenge to aim to play chromatic scales over 3+ octaves. "How many Bb (C treble) pitches can you hit?" Use a tuner whenever playing scales to check intonation /pitch. Can't be done without using a 4th valve! Started doubling on a 3 valve baritone (brass band) and find the absence of 4th valve frustrating.

I love the fullness of each of the sixteenths in the beginning, especially. You sound great! Such attention to details

My 165 out of the case, valves stuck I had to sent away to serviced, the slide falls out and the finish stretches easily. I still have valve issues, not impressed with horn.

I like your comment about not over practicing as I tend to snowball into desires for excellence and I push and burn myself out so much that I don’t enjoy music the same. It is supposed to be a fun memory not another painful class 😂

Seriously, it's a nice invention, but the price difference is insane. Like I got one for 6,- on Amazon, the cheapest PETE is 46,- and go up to 120 (gold plated)! The only thing I did was add a little rubber pad on both ends with superglue. Feels nicer against your teeth instead of metal (pete doesn't have this either). The rubber rings don't matter that much. It's not like your going to put massive amounts of force on too, besides it's nicer to pull from the end instead of the middle anyways. If it's that much of an issue a drop of superglue would fix the problem. Instead of being afraid to lose them, I just bought 3 cheap ones and put them everywhere I train. I think I might buy the official one if it was more around 20,-

First day playing after a long break: after a good time warming up "Ha ha, I still got it! I sound amazing!" Practices for 1 hour until chops are thoroughly exhausted. The next day: picks up instrument. Tone is shakey, notes are shaking, articulation is sloppy, and chops are dead within a half hour. "Eh, what happened? 😢"

I purchased a set for my Shires (that didn’t fit, even though they said it would…), but then when I switched back to Besson they ended up fitting that! I also have been playing with 1 standard weight and found that to be the best setup for how it feels to play and how it sounds out in the hall. I had a student describe the sound differences with and without it and they described it like a TV that’s in 1080p going up to 4k resolution.

That is a very interesting way to put it! Interesting that it didn't work on your first horn, but I am glad it worked out in the end.

I like this thing. I’ve been using it for about 4 or so months, and found that defining clarity is easier. I also felt like it helps me play a little better in tune. It might just me starting to get better at hearing pitch, but when I first got my Besson, everything was REALLY sharp. When I bought this it was slightly less so. Not sure. I took it off today to see what it sounds like, and for whatever reason I feel better in the lower (F below the staff to pedal B flat) but worse in the higher range. (Any higher than F above the staff). I definitely play more in the latter, so I think I’ll stick with it. Might try with less weight, I’ve always had the whole thing on. My issue is the dang thing is stuck!

You know, I never really thought about why 4th seems stuffier than other valves, but that makes a lot of sense. It sounds like, to me, that each plate just adds a bit more clarity to the 4th valve notes. Did you feel like adding more weight than just one plate was too open or you just feel like 1 plate was the sound you wanted? How did you solidify only one plate?
@AKCEuph6 ай бұрын
I didn't like the way the playing felt with both weights on, and I really connected with the sound with just one weight. I felt with a lot of weight I was pushing through more metal (if that makes any sense), and the sound was a little too pillowy for my taste.

Does the pitch remain the same?
@AKCEuph9 ай бұрын
Pitches stay the same, it doesn't throw you into a new key suddenly like some mutes. However, the intonation does get a little squirrly. The larger black practice mute is an overall better experience, but the portability is just so good with the travel mute.
