@pamelajefferies3197 I like all types of side dishes, but with rice and mashed potato it tastes more delicate , in my opinion😊. By the way, in Russia we have a similar dish, pasta with minced meat and onions (without sauce), maybe with carrots, called “Navy Pasta”, it also turns out tasty and very fast😊.

@ the needles we use is egg noodles . They are wide and wavy and light. You can butter them so they done stick together when you put the stroganoff on them. I put mine in the stroganoff. I will try the mashed potatoes. What is your favorite traditional dish ? I pray you and your family have been safe during the war.

@pamelajefferies3197 Thank you very much for your words, they touched my heart ❤️ Russian cuisine is not the most popular in the world, but we have a lot of delicious things, I really love Olivie salad, pel'meni (like a dumplings), stewed potatoes with forest mushrooms and sour cream, bliny (like pancakes, but more thin) with jam or salted salmon, syrniki (little pancakes from cottage cheese), just whole chicken fried in the oven, large pies with fillings called kulebyaki. My favorite filling is fried cabbage with bacon or boiled egg. And what dishes do you like from your cousine?

@ I grew up with very German foods and in our region Appalachian style foods . Hardy foods lol you had me forest mushrooms . As a child my dad would take me mushroom hunting but only type . But I have found so many different types now .i fix a lot of cabbage with bacon or ham hocks smoked . It’s like the ankle of a swine. Some times I use smoked turkey wing and legs and some People use the smoked neck bones .I think our food are very similar. I love roasted beets and root vegetables. My mother made pickled beets . Canned picked cabbage also . I love bliny you can have them sweet or savory. And a roasted chicken is always a win . Have you ever cook a whole turkey ? You live in the city of countryside? I am a rural girl but not far city . I have loved chatting with you . I also love cottage cheese . I wonder if it’s like ours . Have you ever been to America 🇺🇸? I make drop dumpling and rolled out cut in long thin strips noodles . Are your dumplings dropped or rolled thin . Dumplings are very fluffy here .

My take on it is sautéed onions and mushrooms with paprika until they're black. Then meat ,beef broth, rubbed sage, salt, pepper, then I use sour cream instead of cream.
