She was a very poor judge of character. She revered this chap (a serial fantacist, fraudulent memoirist and paedophile), and Saville.

it is astonishing to hear the voices of "old generations", those glorious voices are still shining like modern days despite all the odds of mono recording nearly a century ago.

She was quite remarkable. In the end it all comes down to religion, if a religion is true it must clothe and direct your entire life. Sometimes it takes a lifetime to suddenly realise, a life full of regret, of sin, which has not yet accomplished its desired victory over you. We go on. CHRIST IS KING, HIS HOLY MOTHER IS QUEEN.

We were enjoying this until about 34 minutes in you just couldn't resist attacking Trump. I can't even watch a program on Alexander Pope without having someone stick a knife in me. Don't bother writing nasty reactions to this comment. I won't see them. And I will not watch any other Shaftesbury Productions.

Moral backbone and courage, combined with high intellect. She embodies the difference between a mere politician and a statesman/stateswoman. We are in dire need of the latter in our troubled times.

Apparently, Laurens Van Der Post fathered a daughter to a 14-year-old child and did his utmost to keep it secret. It came out eventually, but the mainstream media were strangely reticent and wouldn't talk about it openly, probably because LVDP had been a kind of guru to the now King Charles III in his younger days. What a shame, but not surprising that Charles III has yet another black mark against his legacy to go with Savile and all the others, including his younger brother.

A fantastic documentary combing experts' comments with dramatic impersonation of Pope and his contemporaries. I particulary enjoy the stunning performance of the two actors who play the role of Alexander Pope and SamuelJohnson. The narrator's voice is so charming.!

WHAT A TITAN !!!!! WHAT A GENIUS !!! WHAT AN ARTIST !!!!!! Glorious music poured out of this man, all his life ! His music has enriched my life for over 50 years. I personally consider Kiri Te Kanawa,s rendition of the 4 last songs the most glorious....what heights !!! Words fail me to describe my connection to Richard Strauss...It is too much for me....now, at 74, a lot of things are heightened, as time is passing.....German music... Ah !!! Bruckner, Brahms, Mahler....and RICHARD STRAUSS !!!!

A very interesting insight into her mentality and outlook. Very much imbued with a kind of quasi Victorian nationalism that was somewhat dated back in the 1980s and looks and sounds very odd to modern ears.
