After having been in a sailing club with all sorts of boats, it was easy for me to develop the opinion that the Macgregor was lightly rigged. I am very prone to sea sickness so we used it mainly on the Columbia River and the San Juan Islands in Washington and Canada. The strong point of the boat was being able to go over 20 mph if it was needed. If I was going to have another boat, I would search for another Macgregor. I would need to win the lottery to be able to afford one again. :)

I have a Q. Did you drill through cabin interior headliner when install those new (not from the kit) double stack blocks? I'm about to do the same on my Mac 26x and there is no access to that area from within.
@polepole906613 күн бұрын
@@lostcorsair hello. No need to go thru the headliner because the blocks do not require a back late. As per BWY instructions they are held with self tap screws (pre drill) and strong adhesive (3M 5200). The reason is the force is not upward but lateral. As a precaution always be careful to not pull but parallel to deck. Cheers mate

@@lostcorsair yes. Pre-drill slightly smaller than the SS screws, taper bore the top to avoid cracking the gel coat, apply 3M 5200 to bottom of clutches and holes to seal and glue, and then screw it down. The 5200 is crucial because the screws alone won’t hold if you use 4200 scellant. Cheers

@@JohnVH-diy there might be. But I’m not aware of how. Do you use dry lube in your mast slide. It helps a lot to glide down. Also maybe your slide slugs are worn out. It usually comes down quite easy with just the weight of the sail and the downhaul helps bring the last portion down.

Another question. For the short power line from your fused block to the ACU (the white jacket wire in your video), what size wire did you use? Is that just a red and a black to plus and minus? The ACU has + , - , and ground (three wire ports). Isn't the - (minus) good enough for the ground?
@rogerbsailor8 ай бұрын
Now I understand that the other ground port is for the RF Ground. You didn't seem to use that in your installation. Does that mean it is optional and only necessary if the system is getting excessive "noise" in the wiring? My boat does not have an RF grounding system to connect it to.
@polepole90668 ай бұрын
My understanding is a metal boat can be grounded. The way a fibreglass boat like a Mac is grounded is through the Anode on the engine. So my house batt and engine batt share the negative to ground my house electrical to the engine anode. Im definitely no specialist so feel free to confirm with pros or in the manual.

Thank-you for sharing. What are your thoughts on single line reefing? Why did you decide to go with double line reefing? Are you happy with the reefing lines at the aft of the boom? Would you want to have the reefing lines led aft into the cock pit? All information and feedback appreciated.
@polepole90668 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comments Mate. I’m happy with the reefing on the boom so far. Makes de-masting easier for trailering. but since I now had a slip, reefing lines led aft would surely be a benefit. As for using 2 lines, I first Installed a single line reef for each reef points, and the friction was too much to properly reef both clew and tack with only 1 line. Also, one line is quite long to manage and stow on the boom once reefed. If you led it aft 1 line is manageable, but the friction is still a problem IMO. Hope this helps …

Hi, thanks for the vid. The manual has the backbone going from the 5-way connector to the ACU. You have the backbone going to the display/controller. Will it work to run the backbone cable from the 5-way to the sensor/gyro? I'm hoping so, since that backbone cable is longer, which I need for my placement of the gyro.
@polepole90669 ай бұрын
From what I understand, the backbone (blue wire) is best used between the 2 most distant components or groups of components, regardless what they are. And then you can re-split to 2 or more components (black/white wire) Hope I understood your question right …
@rogerbsailor9 ай бұрын
@@polepole9066 Okay. Well, I plan to have my sensor/gyro the farthest away from the other components. The ACU will be in a cockpit lazarette near the controller/display which is near the helm (of course), and next to the ACU, a new fused power distribution box like yours. I will run the backbone up to my gyro more towards the center of the boat and lower in the boat. Sounds like you're saying that will work. I'm planning on #8 AWG wire from my main circuit panel toggled circuit breaker to run to the new fused box. What wire did you use?
