scurge was an undead transformer, he was dead but brought back by Unicron's dark will as a Terracon and presumably some of Unicron's dark energon, its likely this is the same for the other's in Unicron's crew. we know Scurge is undead because he has a massive head injury he hides with his mask that i doubt even Optimus could survive and you can even see his brain core and the wound does not cause energon loss so its likely he is no longer powered by energon

Megatron in G1 had a bit of a story, he was the Decepticon leader for a while he was a situational ally to Optimus, and then he decided after growing tired of the war, he surrender to Optimus and asked to be put on trial by the Knights of Iacon as he started feeling guilt for everything he did, he realized he was the villain the entire time. he was spared and joined the Autobots and became a pacifist only to break his pacifism to kill a Decepticon named Tarn and his crew who wanted to kill him, and when he brutally killed Tarn he returned to his pacifism afterward. Megaton has always been complicated as a character because unlike in the later cartoons and comics, G1 Megatron had a character Arc which was similarly repeated in Transformers Prime when Megatron became a pacifist and quit being a Decepticon when he saw the same tyranny he once inflicted on the autoboots inflicted on him by Unicron
