Sadly, the great interviews are badly let down by the 'background' music that is too loud and intrusive. Even if music is 'necessary' why have it so loud that it overpowers the quality of the interview audio?

Is there any way to get a test account for that? This is pretty cool - I'm curious what kind of algorithms it's capable of. Python API? GAH! I need to know more!

So as a non-physics layman, I'm watching this video and hearing him talk about this gluon field being the basis for mass generation within the proton, and thus all mass in the universe. Then I'm thinking, wait, weren't we all told that this was the "big thing" about the Higgs boson and the Higgs field? It was supposedly responsible for creating "drag" on mass-less particles and thus explaining where mass comes from? Oh well. One minute you think your learning bits and pieces, and the next minute physics kicks you in the teeth and laughs at you.

Interaction with the Higgs field gives the quarks their initial mass which accounts for like 1% of the total mass of a proton. It’s the binding energy of the strong force (which originates from interactions of quarks with the gluon field) that gives a proton the majority of its mass. As total energy of an object increases, so does its mass i.e faster moving or hotter objects are more massive than they would be at rest. He references this video here which is a pretty good explanation kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKXGZ4SGg7qkotU

Hi Maria, the Nextflow documentation has a section on Docker: nextflow.io/docs/latest/container.html#docker As regards running Nextflow on High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, keep in mind that Docker is typically not available due to security issues. Typical container runtimes that are available in HPC centres typically include Singularity, Shifter, Charliecloud, Podman (all supported by Nextfow), Sarus and others. Docker might still be a viable option for personal computers, workstations and cloud-based servers.

Hi Philipp! On File System overlay - completely agree about the benefits of that abstraction, especially for getting around the hard limits on number of files imposed on the HPC. I have two related questions: 1. In your experience, how is the IO performance of such abstraction? Do you notice any degradation/improvement? 2. Also, what impact does this have on the IO if, for example, I wish to access the file generated within a container, on the native fs - ie., outside the container environment?
@philippbayer1087
@philippbayer1087 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Wasim! I noticed only slight degradation, but I haven't done any benchmarks. It certainly didn't slow down by orders of magnitude. I also haven't checked the IO impact but I assume there's a slight one. I can't find any benchmarks online! Sorry that I can't be much of a help there. The biggest painpoint is that in the current Singularity setup, only one Singularity process can read/write from/to the overlay FS; if you want to run 100 runs at the same time you will need to make 100 overlay filesystems which is a hassle.

Hi Pascal! On your comment about portability of codes using containers - sure, it would be nice to be able to pack everything you need in a container, and forget about it. Is it that simple though? Is the container itself portable across systems? What must one ensure to be able to use a container in a plug-and-play fashion across different systems?

@1:00 Is that blue colour what can be called as a gluon field?(AKA one of quantum field ) and red colour a gluon particle?? Or the lowest energy density which is not shown/render in this image (prf.derek said tht in this video) is what we can call as GLUON-FIELD? Or is that RED COLOR RECTANGLE at 1:13 is what can be called as gluon-field(AKA one of quantum field)

That is exactly how I would locate MH 370. Now I would return to the same arc and release far fewer, but larger, particles to give a better idea of where MH 370 is. I would use particles ranging in size from the smallest found, to that of the largest. There is no way to figure where a particle will drift to, because we have no way of knowing all the forces it is being subjected to. However, we can pickup a particle, know where it originated and search that area. I want to find that plane

The mh370 is in the bottom of Indian Ocean. The question is? Why is mh370 is difficult to locate? Simple answer is. We haven't explore the ocean as much almost 71% of earths surface is saltwater then the land mass is 29% as you compare there is big difference. Any wreckage of plane crash in the ocean will be difficult to locate. And one of the factors also that's mh370 is difficult to find is the depth of the ocean that approximately 3 kilometers below the ocean floor including the intense pressure on the water surface

Motion in a circle at near 'c'. Neutrino interaction, and gravitation all contribute to mass. Binding energy 'c' -- equivalent mass and mass to energy conversion. Velocity near 'c' -- equivalent mass. Higgs field, muons contribute to mass.

As another poster has said MH370 lies in the Gulf of Thailand. The assumption, based on reflector tracking, that it made a left turn and went down in the Indian Ocean is completely wrong.

Funny how everyone ignores the revelation last year by former prime minister Tony Abbott that four days after the MH370 disappearance he was told by the Malaysian prime minister that it was murder suicide by MH370'S captain. Suspected letter or the two minute phone call made by the captain immediately prior to takeoff.
