This was one of the best most realistic movies ever to be made. And it's all because of the drill instructor

Most memorable suicide prevention class I ever attended was put on by our Battalion Chaplain while I was at 1st Bn 4th Avn Regt at Fort Hood. He sat us in the chapel and played the Boot Camp half of Full Metal Jacket. It worked. Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of a Marine on the edge who finally snaps is gut wrenching, but that Chaplain had it nailed. All the signs of a soldier about to lose it and check out are in that movie.

I really want to understand why you chose to cut this with the "beginning" starting 32:15 in. You do this with several videos.

interesting that this is "cut" with the beginning of the interview at 9:41, then wrapping around to 0.00. Let's say, conceptually, I have ears and can hear. Can someone talk about it?

What's creepy is they let a 14 year old go in to see a movie about orgies. Shows you how gross Hollywood is.

I only know him from the two Texas chainsaw massacre movies. Remember his character in those movies was in Koera conflict, his character claims they had to kill eachother, eat themselves (cannibalism) ro survive. Hell, I'd do It too to to survive. RIP , I know he died recently.

When I was Nine my "Uncle Bob" who was a twin to my dad Jim retired from 30+ years as a Chief Master Sergent for SAC, based at Hickem in Hawaii, he left his family without saying a word, showed up in portland or.. and took my mom from his brother. Robert Edward Rickey was a complete douchebag.. to his Brother: James Lytle Rickey.... My Uncle became my stepdad. and he was an identical twin to my dad....

Well….that’s what good filmmakers do…they steal and build off of it…it’s really about being a visual and mental learner. Former scenes you’ve seen clocking randomly in your head to what info or document you’re dealing/creating. Not everyone has the “click”. As you can see all the film school students don’t amount to shit, they don’t have the “click”. That’s what makes DW Griffith a GIANT. Griffith learned from artworks, boom the “click” was born.

Marine training was cut to 8 weeks because the US has made such a catastrophic blunder in Vietnam they were dropping like flies. The idea that physical and mental abuse was necessary in the face of such pressure is just another layer of American insanity and self-justification. Then they came home, mentally destroyed and abandoned by their own country. Top to bottom disaster fuelled by paranoia and the desire to relive the glory of WWII.

This movie becomes more and more important as time goes by. We're discovering some really twisted things about the rich and powerful elites in this world, the disgusting things that they do, and the atrocities that they are capable of. Kubrick was giving us a peek into what that entails.

I’m sure a million other jarheads have already said this, but as somebody who went through Paris Island, I have never seen a more accurate depiction to the reality of that place than his performance. Sometimes it was more intense, sometimes it was less, but this movie hit the ball right down the middle. There job is to mold soft puffy into a tool that’s harder than a coffin nail. And nobody does it better on earth. They won’t come off the island able to John Wick all their high school bullies. But those bullies will be terrified of his willingness to try
