"A peculiar thing of this Commission In that ninety-two lines of dissertation Is there no talk of exploitation Of the worker or his tragic condition Read through the pages, there is no mention Of capitalistic oppression Which leads one to entertain a thought And wonder if it's a one-sided report." Relevant, even 90 years later. Attila's political commentary was always remarkably prophetic.

I hear people talking about Panorama tunes must have the "Spirit of Carnival". Well boy I played pan in 1971 with Nestle Ambassadors. We were Guest Artist for that Panorama finals. Man when Fonclaire drop that Duke Tune, they wake up the Savannah. But you know they put them quite 4th. They doh like South Bands dread. They won People's Choice that year. God doh sleep.

I agree Kelv..I played this to a friend raised in the UK whose grandparents were from St.Kitts, and his only previous conception of Calypso was steel pan as background music in holiday programs..He was astounded.

Nice minor-key Calypso by one of the best of the old-time calypsonians! An interesting tale if you listen to the lyrics. Lajoblesse = La Diablesse, an evil female supernatural being who leads men astray. Great music, great lyrics!

I had the pretty baby, Oh confess she love me, And she’s from respectable family, And she said, that she had the soldier Who is treating her much better, aha She don't want no native fella. So she told me plainly, She love Yankee Money, And she said Lord Invader, Not because you sung rum and Coca Cola, Don’t bother, If you know, you ain't got the Yankee Dollar. I started to chat the lady, I pleaded so impressively, I showed her a lot of English Money, But this is what she made me to understand She said she don't want no Trinidadian, You must be an American, or either Puerto Rican. So she told me plainly, She love Yankee Money, And she said Lord Invader, Not because you sung rum and Coca Cola, Don’t bother, If you know, you ain't got the Yankee Dollar. They have some girls in Port Of Spain Some of them ain't got no shame, Yes I know in lot but ah won't call name And if you see them around the corner, To approach them don't you bother, aha Don’t you know the blocking some Yankee soldier? So she told me plainly, She love Yankee Money, And she said Lord Invader, Not because you sung rum and Coca Cola, Don’t bother, If you know, you ain't got the Yankee Dollar. But now the war is over, Trinidad is getting Harder, Some of the young girls bawling for murder You can hear them how the gossiping, No more Yankee dollars the spending and tin But now the hustling import there use that shilling So she told me plainly, She love Yankee Money, And she said Lord Invader, Not because you sung rum and Coca Cola, Don’t bother, If you know, you ain't got the Yankee Dollar.

rum and coca cola was the original, lord invader and lionel belasco (his musician) sued for copywrite infringement, the both plaintiffs won the case but whereas Lord invader received about $150000 in royalties, the other party kept the copywrite to the song. He then wrote this song as a follow up.... in the lyrics he said "not because yuh sing run and coca cola".....
