Question about the S5iiX and S5ii….is the 4K 24p and 60p oversampled from 6k? Or is it pixel binned or line skipped?
@michaelgreenvideo4 күн бұрын
Good question, I will check and maybe make a video, but I would guess that most likely the 4k 24 is as it does not crop, but the 60p definitely not as this crops into the sensor

But what about the kit lens?
@michaelgreenvideo13 күн бұрын
I live in the UK so events are always indoors and not very well lit, so I personally need lenses that are bright and do not vary, so if I had a choice, though I do like the 20-60mm lens, I think I would still get the 18-70mm. But it's a good point! It's ultimately the same argument though on why get the 24 - 70mm? It's also almost the same. There are obvious advantages of a 24-70 that the 20 - 60 doesn't have. I have a wedding coming up so might be buying this lens to run on the gimble, so will likely share some tests.

Please let me know this, something that I am not able to verify anywhere. For using APSC lens on Full frame, would we still be able to shoot 4k24 and 4k30 with this lens or not? There are already so less videos on using APSC lenses on L Mount and that is why its so hard to get this information. Even 2-3 creators, including you, who have created these videos dont talk about 4k24 and 4k30 working with this lens.
@michaelgreenvideo16 күн бұрын

@michaelgreenvideo21 күн бұрын
Cheers buddy, I appreciate that you saw that really it’s an idea. One thing I didn’t also account for is that also this camera has a 1.4 crop in the high stabilisation mode, so even when not filming in 50fps or with the apsc crop on this lens might still be usable - will need testing
@iamkubrick22 күн бұрын
No this is dreadful advice and you’ll waste your money on something that has zero resale value. Only ever buy full frame lenses from now on - crop sensor is on the way out.
@michaelgreenvideo21 күн бұрын
Appreciate you adding to the convo 💪🏻 One thing I didn’t also account not also factor was the 1.4 crop with the high image stability on. This again adds to the potential value to this lens as could even work without even having the APSC crop on! So 27-75 f2.8 with all the nasty cropping this camera does could be great! But really, needs serious testing. There are some other good reviews out there for this lens, worth checking out! Cheers

Interesting video. I never new this lens existed until now. It seems strange for an L mount lens to only cover an APS-C sized sensor. I personally wouldn't recommend this as a first lens on any Lumix full frame camera for 2 main reasons: - It negates the whole point and advantage of having a full frame camera in the first place (might as well go with a M43 camera like the GH5/6/7) - The equivalent 27-75 focal length in APS-C mode is too telephoto to be used as a general all round lens - meaning no capturing wide shots in a tight space.
@michaelgreenvideo23 күн бұрын
@@5750mike cheers dude? Generally people are recommended 24-70mm which would be even more telephoto when shooting 50fps. However, one also thing to think about is the cropping that also happens with the image stability with these cameras. The crop is also 1.4 so this lens will also accommodate for that. But honestly, this is more of a video to debate, so interesting to get your recommendations on what will avoid the telephoto? Would you recommend the 16-28 full frame lens instead? But I think for a starting lens it’s great, with the aim to upgrade when you can rather then upgrading the body and the lenses later on when you want to move to full frame?

Samyang is infamous for their abysmal quality control and that's why I never buy a Samyang lens online. My copy doesn't creep even the slightest, but it backfocuses like crazy on its telephoto end. I fixed it by upgrading the firmware and calibrating the focus using their lens station.

V30 cards are more of a problem for stills photographers shooting in burst mode.
@bestinkamloopsАй бұрын
I’ve also found that the V30 cards work for recording most video formats. However, the issue I’ve experienced is when you’re shooting burst photos with V30 cards that’s when you noticed their limitations. They take a really long time to buffer out. Give that a try and you’ll see how slow the V30s are for burst photos. I use Levar V60 cards with no issues.

Hi Mich, Algortithm brought me here! I agree and disagree on some points. When shooting a wedding film I want to be as lightweight as possible. I don't want people to recognize me as a cameraman. They should feel like I'm a guest so they don't feel as uncomfortable in front of the camera. On the other hand battery life on the s5ii(x) is very weak in comparison to my friends fx3 which is why I like to power via vmount on a rig during corporate shoots. Also I feel customer want to see bigger rigs because they think this will add value to the production :D I subbed!
@AllThingsFilm1Ай бұрын
Thank you. I have the S5ii and I know it won't be a big deal to rig it properly. I get the whole box shaped camera thing. Sure, it can be a little easier to rig it symmetrically. But, rigging a DSLR shaped camera is not as big a deal as the box shaped camera lovers make it out to be. I shot a feature film with the GH5. No problems with rigging etc. whatsoever.

Absolutely! This is the only reasonable way to have this camera! Putting extras at least for me is just a flexing, the camera won't produce better video. The most common thing is loosing option to shoot important moment, because your rig is heavy or uncomfortable or whatever. You can change between handheld, tripod and gimbal, im shooting racing cars and nobody is going to wait me to change the camera setup and also feeling super cool, when I can switch between video and photos in just a click. Happy that somebody is speaking about that!
@spetlafilmАй бұрын
No camera needs a rig, but it comes in handy because you put a field monitor on it to get a better feel for the image, a professional microphone, etc. I have two Panasonic S5IIX and one S9 for this reason. One S5IIX is fully rigged, the other I use on my gimbal and the S9 I take everywhere with me as a backup or for quick work with wide lens.
@CartyCantDance2 ай бұрын
I completely disagree. I rig my camera out so I have power all day and a follow focus for manual lenses. It’s not heavy, and the form factor with a battery makes it more comfortable to hold
@michaelgreenvideo2 ай бұрын
Yeah, just depends on what you are used to I guess. What type of work do you do? My point with these cameras is it's not necessary. Changing a battery takes moments, and unless you are filming a 1 - 2 hours ceremony or interview that shouldn't be a problem. I often find time is always against me, not sure what type of work you do, but I am often jumping between gimbal, sticks and handheld.

After watching your informative and encouraging video, I am thinking of using a V60 or V30 512GB backup in card slot 2. Any idea would there be issues if the backup (slot 2) is writing into a slower card than the slot 1 ...? I have never had any issues with SanDisk Extreme PRO cards. But backups are a important in all work 😅

Hey! Glad the video was helpful. Not sure how to help other then trying out, have a play, and see what results you get. As you know you can shoot with different card brands and sizes so as long as you are in Long GOP and have a V30 card which is fast enough it should work? The Extreme PRO's are great though, and ultimately if you have the money it's always a good decision to make so you have access to the ALL Intra whenever you might need it. Thanks again!
