Wonderful! Thank you. Would rather see closer view of you and the console. Get your stopuller to aim the camera at differenthings. (Since I play this fromemory, no page turner.) Descending pedal notes, and others,hould be connected. Not haphazardly separated. What? Fantasy ends in G-major?? Wonderful fugue tempo!

Never thought I would say this about Dupre, but I think I enjoy his more atonal-soundings better! Though this was expertly performed.

It's not really correct to state that St. James only contains "some" Warren pipework. Both principal choruses, most of the remaining Swell Organ and Pedal Organ, and all of the chorus reeds are Warren work from either 1853 or 1888. The 1936 rebuild preserved all Warren work and it was only in the 60s and 70s that many of the characteristic Romantic stops were removed to suit the dogma of the time. (It is to be hoped that the full nineteenth-century character will be returned to the organ in the future.) However, the core character of the instrument remains Warren's nineteenth-century American voice and is distinct from any of Casavant's tonal recipes. Casavant likes to pretend that no organ builders before them were of any importance, but Warren has been unjustly marginalized in Canada and we would do good to properly appreciate his style and work.
@DavidASimon
@DavidASimon Жыл бұрын
Surely this comment is misplaced when the brief commentary only spoke positively of Warren's work while not even mentioning Casavant. Currently, only two stops on the swell--the quintadena and aeoline--speak in their original voices. For comparison, surely you think of Saint-Sulpice Paris as Cavaillé-Coll because of its voicing, stop list, and character rather than an emblematic Cliquot instrument?
@jeremytingle6404
@jeremytingle6404 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidASimon If one compares St. James to major unmodified instruments of the time in America (Hook, Johnson, Erben, the restored Mitchell instruments), there is much more affinity with them than any of Casavant's later work. As for Saint-Sulpice, Cavaillé-Coll himself insisted that the organ would remain a Clicquot, and that pipework was treated much more conscientiously than we would expect from a North American rebuild. Unlike some of his instruments, I would not say that Saint-Sulpice is exclusively a Cavaillé-Coll.
