I read my 2 first books by yesterday, it was A Good Marriage and a bonus story 1922. I liked A Good Marriage better because 1922, was gory and dark.

I recommend “A little something different”, a cute love story of 250 pages or so, and “Things the grandchildren should know”, a very inspiring book of 256 pages 😊

Sorry if this comment turns out long I tend to get quite impassioned. I must say I prefer the show over the book and it really comes down to belly's role as a protagonist. She is a far more active protagonist in the show, a lot of the actions that drive the narrative forward are a direct result of her decisions. I have always preferred that to more passive protagonists where the story appears to be happening to them. Like in the book she feels more like a side character with a first person narrative if that makes sense. The show I feel even addresses that theme with Stephen's speech with suzanna's quote about happening to the world. I saw the world as sort of being a metaphor for the narrative framing of the story itself. I would also argue that the way they portrayed her grief was actually more realistic in the show in my opinion. Especially since I would say a theme for this season was moving on which by the way I feel the whole volleyball element was eluding to. In that vain I did enjoy the inclusion of details such as her school record being affected or the loss of her captaincy which shows how life goes on even when you are at your lowest and also just the tangible consequences grief can have on a person's life. At the same time people still try to move forward and when they make that decision often it may come at a time when maybe you are not ready like her trying to go to the party and trying to pursue someone else only for it to backfire and her emotions coming forth. The whole up and down emotional spiral felt reminiscent of my own experiences with grief at a similar age although everyone does grieve differently in the end. It also I feel worked I feel better in the show with regards to the relationship with jere, specifically how they are able to support each other in their grief. Kind of added layers to their already complex relationship. I also want to say that I prefer Taylor in the show because she is respecting belly's boundaries a lot more and being overall more supportive which is why belly is maybe not as dismissive of her presence. Finally I feel like the expanded cast allowed for the exploration of various relationships that we could not really explore most notably for me was Steven and Conrad. Steven kind of should be more important as he is someone that grew up with the boys same as her so his exclusion just sort of feels weird also other dynamics other than the main romantic relationship between belly and the two boys is also a welcome in my mind. Actually in the end I guess I just kind of liked it a lot more.
