So everyone who bought rev 1 and has the menus ‘under construction’ get left behind, even though without their backing there wouldn’t be a rev 2… poor form indeed.
@ConductiveLabsКүн бұрын
We only have a rev2 because we could no longer purchase the original microcontroller NDLR used, due to the pandemic, chip shortages and all. So we went 2 years with no NDLRs until we submitted and redesigned it for a new microcontroller. None of that work was easy or free. Now we have the opportunity to add some new features for new customers, and there's nothing wrong with that. The rev1 is completely out of storage space, so we can't add any new features that require storage. We still managed to get the Rotation Algorithm and Interval Notes controller in there. Yes, still providing free updates 7 years after launch. Later in the new year, we plan to have a crowd funding for a NDLR rev1 circuit board upgrade. First we need to nail down the features that we are committing to so people can make an informed decision on whether an upgrade is worth it. We hope to be ready for that by end of January.

Steve, love the new feature set. How about some further development on the drone instrument. I'm often trying to use it as a bass instrument but the various patterns are quite limited. would be nice if you could add something there. I'm using an off board arpeggiator on the drone track to create some complexity with a bass instrument through the DAW but it would be handy if you had time to expand upon the drone track. love the instrument by the way. it's helped me learn chord structure and opened up a many song possibilities. thanks for the great work.

It's not like there isn't space available for it in the menus. I hope this isn't a recurring theme of neglect for the rev1. There would be no rev2 if it wasn't for us who suppored the device by buying the rev1.
@gonzinigonz22 күн бұрын
Memory space for code, its maxed out on the rev1. The rev2 has an updated chipset which has more memory, think it got trigger during the chip shortage a few years back. They had to update the design, just a fact of life when it comes to hardware. Parts become end of life.

@@gonzinigonz gate is such an essential part of playing synths I wouldn't care losing some other parts... this noise generator also :)
@gonzinigonz22 күн бұрын
@@TomislavRupic I would agree. Not sure if they would put the energy into it but one work around would be to have custom firmware builds for the rev1 that offered different functionality by removing certain existing elements. Say like the midi CC controller part if you never used it. Likely problem though is all the code for these different elements all interact in some way so probably a lot of work to achieve stability and maybe even a complete rewrite needed as was never on the table as an option from the start. Maybe there's some code optimisation that could be done to squeeze some more space for new code on the rev1. There are still some bugs outstanding since the last release, the screen updates for one when in certain screens. Its all about the rev2 now as current model.

@ConductiveLabs23 күн бұрын
We would have liked to add these new features to the original The NDLR, but that hardware is completely out of storage space. We added a lot more feature to The NDLR than originally planned, like the chord sequencer, pattern and rhythm editors, and a bunch of other things not originally conceived in the hardware design. We don't have a single byte left for storing any new settings and it would suck to make great patches and not be able to save them. We plan to have a circuit board replacement as an upgrade path. Look for the announcement for pre-sales in the new year.

Amazing ! is it possibly to send start stop messages to the mccc via midi. so you don't have to push the buttons on the unit itself ?. I see you can assign clock enable but not start/stop?
@ConductiveLabs28 күн бұрын
The Start/Stop/Continue controls on the MRCC are really just for convenience if you don't have another device handy with those controls. Really no reason to use an external device to tell the MRCC to send a Start or Stop message, the external device can send it directly.

I'm using an Oxi One, which, sometimes a single sequencer will run on both synths. I've used channels to label them on the Oxi One and used the specific midi ports to match the settings. But I still can't get the sequencer to respond to the channels individual sequencers.

So pass midi thru, do you have to have the midi in the other hardware coming out of thru goingto ndlr? It would help newbies if they actually showed what was connected to what.
@ConductiveLabs2 ай бұрын
You can think of The NDLR as 4 MIDI keyboards, each playing a separate part. Nothing has to be on the NDLR's MIDI inputs unless you want to control NDLR with an external MIDI device. However, for convenience, you can have for instance a multi-part sequencer with a MIDI channel going to NDLR for control, and other channels will pass through to control other MIDI devices, just to simplify the MIDI cabling.

Steve, Two questions: 1) It seems from my attempts to employ a USB keyboard that it defaults to the U.S. mapping - is this correct? and 2) That being the case, is there a way to access the # symbol from a U.K. qwerty keyboard? I've multiple input devices of the same type and would like to differentiate between them. Great name, by-the-way!!! 🤔🤭😂 Thank you, Steve.

I would really appreciate a video explaining the channel split function. And a demo on smart ways to use MRCC with the NDLR.
@ConductiveLabs2 ай бұрын
The channel split function was made for some odd use cases where you don't want all of the MIDI channels going to a port. For instance, I had a vintage Sequential Prophet 600, and it was the version that had omni input, which means it listened on every MIDI channel and there was no way to change it. With channel split turned on, I could have an input which might have multiple channels of MIDI being received, and channel split will send that data to consecutive outputs. In this use case, I would only send MIDI data to the channel split input on channels 1, 2, 3 and/or 4 so only channel 1 would be received on output 1, channel 2 on outputs 2, channel 3 on output 3 and channel 4 on output 4. And nothing says I have to route Input 1 to more than 1 output, so I can limit output 1 to only 1 channel with data. There are other odd use cases that this feature might help with, but it will probably be more interesting to those who have certain vintage gear with MIDI limitation.

I really appreciate these videos. What I would love to see is an in-depth conversation that contrasts and compares the 880 to the full fat MRCC. Obviously this is scaled down, and that's not a bad thing. We don't all need 12 outs. However, it's the seemingly long list of MRCC features that 880 does not have (eg extensibility) that keeps me a bit antsy about pulling the trigger on the 880. I guess you could say that the fear of regretting getting the 880 instead of the MRCC is keeping me from getting either of them. I'd also love to hear if the 880 does anything cool that the MRCC doesn't do.
@ConductiveLabs2 ай бұрын
Yes, the MRCC 880 has a very small feature set compared to the MRCC. It would be easier to look at MRCC MIDI Router Control Center to see if there are features that you can't live without. It's hard for us to know what's more important for your studio, but the devices are so much different it should become apparent if you are in need of more advanced filtering and MIDI conversion features or not. I would go so far as to say these two MIDI routers are for different use cases (but with a lot of overlap). The big MRCC being for a larger collection of MIDI gear where the 6 inputs and USB MIDI host ports would be needed. And likely wiring up a lot of devices at once. It's also got the features needed for the unusual needs of some vintage MIDI gear. The MRCC 880 is better for when you are growing out of a 1 in/1 out MIDI interface, or have a smaller collection of gear, or are selectively picking which instruments and sequencers to put on the table to jam on and leaving the rest on the shelf (I do that). Or if you are doing live jams on a select few pieces of gear and want something simple to be able to dynamically switch MIDI inputs and outputs. The thing they have in common which makes them unique amongst modern MIDI interfaces is the form factor, and button per port routing. And for MIDI processing, the MIDI clock filter and the MIDI Start/Stop/Continue filter are common. The big one has Channel mapping, velocity scaling, channel layers and keyboard splits, more filters, and MIDI modifiers such as CC scaling and note quantizing and other creative features that are more than just MIDI utilities, like arpeggiators and Note Map. The idea was that you could take any cheap USB MIDI keyboard and get all of the functionality (and more) of a modern full feature MIDI keyboard. If you want to get more into your specific needs, our forum is a good place for discussion of this topic. forum.conducivelabs.com.
