Channing is the absolute best!! I loved the very end when she kept wanting kisses. And he kept on going. Very sweet and I’m sure this made her day, even year!! Wicked cool of him 💕 She was a great interviewer too! Lots of unique and different questions we don’t normally hear in an interview, it was great!!!

This is fascinating... speaking as an autistic person. I came here from an article about the complexity of the spectrum. Seeing how comfortable Carly is with this kind of conversation, and how naturally it seems to come to her, how she seems to be genuinely enjoying herself, is amazing to me. Meanwhile I can speak with complete fluency, but I cannot imagine myself doing this interview, or if I did I would be masking so hard I'd be dissociating, and would have to spend a day or more recovering afterwards. The spectrum really isn't about 'mild' vs. 'severe' autism. Even the idea of 'high support needs' vs 'low support needs' is much more complicated than it seems. Just because I can speak well, have good motor control, and appear very self-contained and competent from the outside... do I really have 'low support needs' when I cannot manage to hold down a job or maintain any friendships, and struggle greatly with the tasks of everyday living?

I watched your story when you were younger. I was a caregiver/manager in a group home. After watching your story I did more research & helped my 23yr old client learn to communicate for the first time using her eyes & pictures. The smile on her face, letting us know her needs elimate seizures, wanted a TV & told what shows,. Took her shopping first time in life & she picked out paint colors & decorations for her room. I went on to manage 6 group homes & used your story & my residents health & happiness changes in new hire training. Your an inspiration! You have amazing parents & therapists! These interviews show community community acceptance & understanding, shows how "normal" can interact with non-verbal autism! So proud & honored to learn from you! Thank you!

I have autism too. I was nonverbal until I was 4 Years Old. My Parents were going to give up on me. I am glad they did not. I am a smart person just like you. I can speak now. But Before I Could not.

I really liked watching Carly Fleischmann interview Grace Helbig. It's a shame that Carly Fleischmann doesn't update her KZbin account anymore--I was actually starting to like a lot of her interviews.

i saw john stossels story on her. and as a girl i can see why she was seen as... should i say.. wild? many children with nonverbal autism are dismissed as ''behavior issues'' cause they hit or scratch when frustrated. they dont mean to be aggressive towards a person they are with ON PURPOSE. they just cant talk and it frustrates them cause they cannot express themselves. thank god my mom has the understanding of this from working with these children at such a young age at Schwarz . she is now a classroom aide

I was told I couldn't be autistic cause I have a sense of humor. Thankfully, an expert in autism disagreed and I'm getting the treatment I need. I don't even want to imagine the hurdles if you couldn't tell people how funny you are. Great job, Carly! What a great video!

How can what she types be so clear, intelligent and concise? Yet her actions are seemingly uncontrollable and audibly hectic? Genuinely asking.

Watch some more stuff about her. She explains that it is a sensory thing. In this video she is actually quite calm compared to some other ones from when she was younger (especially before she could communicate). Imagine it this way, for no apparent reason, your body is uncontrollably excited and you have this urge to move. We all take for granted that we can sit down calmly, but her body is in overdrive. The vocalizations are a form of stimming. Her brain functions differently (as does the brain of everyone with autism and/or sensory processing difficulties) and it gets overcrowded with sensory information. Stimming can be used to block out input. We all stim and are either sensory seekers or sensory avoiders, but with people who have issues with that, it is blown out of proportion.
