Nice work, as a long time tech myself i often wonder why no one ever metions how much the job costs
@bonesdentrepair6962 ай бұрын
@@AndrewTorres-dy2rd The subject of cost is always challanging with repair videos. I post videos as it is the best way to judge a technicians work quality. With so many variables affecting cost giving out specific prices to a certain job might mislead a future client. Every dent is different and priced accordingly based on size and factors. What is most important is educating the true value of our services allowing the car to keep its original parts and paint all while repaired in a timely manner. Jobs like these should be directly compared to replacement costs in a traditional bodyshop. Thank you for watching and the great comment. Jim

Had a legit nickel size BB gun dent in a right front door of a 2016 X5 come in (retail). Co-worker who has zero PDR experience told him $95 and to avoid drama I just ate it. Had to have a heart to heart with the other people in the shop after that.

@@jasonj4326 in business we sometimes fear damaging profitable relationships at the cost of our value. It is important to provide a consistent price structure that allows us to provide high quality services. Sounds like that was a great opportunity to show why it needs to be charged at a higher rate than a “small” ding. BB gun dents are natoriusly difficult often times taking hours to complete. I appreciate your comment and hope this video helps you in the future. Jim

General temp range to heat paint making it mailable is 150-200 degrees Fahrenheit. You have to use less heat near decals stripes or emblems. Never glue pull on a stripe emblem or decal. Hope that helps Jim

Great question. I use very precise amount of pressure when using metal tapdowns. You must clean and polish your hammers and knockdowns to ensure safety of the painted surface. It’s a delicate balance to knockdown smooth with no harm.

Great repair and video mate! I have one of those Porsches and they can be real tough to fix those Trunks? Especially near the braces It’s a typical golf bag in the boot type of dent when the golf club hits the back edge of the panel creating the outward dents I noticed you said off dolly in a comment? That would mean you had your dolly to the side of the damage while you were tapping it ? Dont know if it was a typo but you can certainly use any dolly as long as it’s weighted and fits the shape you want to planish. It’s a basic panel beating technique but using it to PDR requires patience and using it a lot more Gentle. Duct tape really helps soften the blow with the hammer strikes too 🙌🏼 ❤
@bonesdentrepair696 Жыл бұрын
Yes I mostly used hammer on dolly for this repair. Hammer off dolly can be great for our line of work when gaining shape or using a rod with the technique. I mentioned that as to encourage him to purchase and try using one. I usually type faster then my brain can catch up to with no proofreading lol.

Super job on a really tough one. 2 things I learned from this. video, 1 - I've never used a dolly before, I need to pick one up and give it a go. I don't know if a cheap dolly works. The other thing was to use duct tape on the underside.
@bonesdentrepair696 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes an inexpensive dolly is a valuable tool to have. A cheap roll of duct tape acts as a protective barrier in many areas to save painted surfaces that usually get sacrificed. Hope you pick up a doily and learn some hammer off dolly techniques. The same technique can be sure with a pushing rod as the dolly while you hammer under tension. Hope you have a great day.
