For whatever motivation Regan did what he did about cut cutting the College education funds to half, he just simply traded one dept with another one. I say this not with a negative notion, you can blame him for many things but it simply is idiot to blame him for creating a new depth crisis, he simply traded one for another. I am from Turkey, and our current president Recep Tayyip Erdogan forced building up for a lot of new Universities (no College system in my country, they are all called University) resulting in high school level of Universitas which obviously increases budget spending for paying those useless university student (only useless as a high education graduate), academician and a bunch of other costs. Those are all public Universities, not free sector ones. Now we have lots of unemployed University graduates in our mists. A lot of job requirements are elevated from high school graduation to University graduation where most of them does not necessary require being a University graduate. U.S. suffer a similar problem from other reasons. You have too much useless colleges. Since youngster and their parents believe one should graduate at least from a college, system just unnecessarily adjusted to that demand. This basically stems from public urges not necessities. Do not ask for more college funding, just get out of the high education hype, a lot of Nordic European countries fare better doing so. In the end of the day statically speaking, a country only has a small portion of viable candidates for high education because of genetic IQ standard deviation, the rest you import from other countries if you are able to be a desirable country and that is that. Most of those youngster should not aim for a higher education and system should not demand them to be one as a job requirement. You perceive things all backwards obviously. In the end of the day, you can not build a wat tank from a wood like material. But wood has its is own uses where iron has no say in. Do not try to utilize those people in wrong jobs, that is the bottom line.

Oh just wait until they cut social security payments to retirees by 20% when those coffers run dry! These arrogant politicians have truly failed us as Americans! Straight failed! All lies from the damn beginning! Whilst writing the constitution saying all men all created equal while those colonist stoled the land of native Americans and enslaved Africans to work the agriculture and textile business their lazy asses wouldn’t do themselves! No wonder they are trying to stop the real history from being taught in schools now! No more indoctrination! The gig is up and yes all of the ugly secrets are laying bare! Great video but you make a huge mistake, and a simple one really. You didn't account for religious (mainly monotheism) and cultural differences between the refugees and the host countries plus the refusal of a huge part of the refugees to accept that they will have to become part of a different group of people, learn and accept their customs if they want to succeed with their integration (rampant corruption of government officials is not the only reason those efforts fail if they exist at all, that's the biggest backfire every politician refused to see coming). And it happened, in fact, it is still happening every day. You should have included Sweden in this video, and Finland for taking refugees and burning themselves in the process. Now, 1st world countries have taken this position (externalizing illegal migration processes to other less wealthy nations) not always because of their beliefs but popular opinion, generally, the citizens, and it is way cheaper for the specific host country, so kill two birds with one stone. But that again is the easier way out not the right one. And, please if you can make a video explaining why Italy, Greece, and France have to take on all these refugees, don't they have enough trouble maintaining order among their own people already, dealing with internal corruption or simply failing magnificently at their duties towards their citizens? Sorry, I am a year late to this video but I would love you to elaborate on this issue. Thanks!

There have leterally been 17 congresses since his last term. Interesting how some want to blame Reagan, but hold themselves and the candidates of their choice as somehow being blameless and powerless. I guess its fun to have a boogie man to blame.

Americans live in the myth of a free market. This is a perfect illustration of why you need a good government to solve the housing crisis. Leave it to the free market, you get NIMBY politics in the way. Then you get unaffordable housing, super-long commutes, high energy consumption, and boring suburbs. But good governments are hard to find; most of them collapse under pressure and act in self-interest.

Yep. This should be obvious. Every city needs some land used for residential, business, and commercial purposes. However how much of each use, and where it should be simply cannot be determined by a central planner. It also restricts somone from using one piece of land for multiple purposes, reducing efficiency. Not only that but the idea that it stops negative externalities is laughable becuase it is based of private use rather than anything public (ie pollution, looks ugly, or creates traffic). I personally think zoning should be axed entirely due to these reasons. And instead pollution should basically be illegal (with some minor caveats that arent worth going into), as pollution is the only negative externality that regulation on would have a guarenteed positive impact.

Ugh another reason why Japan is just so much better than us. In the US if you're not making 6 figures, you will barely be scraping by. Japan really cares about people working well together, rather than the self-centeredness of the west. I mean even their kids are taught manners, how to clean their school, serve food to each other etc... that's just smart to show us how we all function together and know how to share.

In Los Angeles, the issue of housing distribution presents a significant challenge, with a discernible trend of large apartment developments predominantly located in economically disadvantaged areas such as Panorama City (not a city), Van Nuys, and North Hollywood. While California's SB9 legislation aimed to address this issue, the proliferation of lot splits following its enactment appears to have exacerbated the problem. Instead of alleviating the housing shortage, the subdivision of properties has led to the emergence of smaller, barely more affordable homes that still command significant prices, ultimately exacerbating affordability concerns. Considering potential solutions, it may help for cities like Los Angeles or New York to explore innovative approaches such as land acquisition at double the market value, followed by forced neighborhood conversions. By assuming ownership of the land, municipalities could wield considerable influence over development decisions within these areas. However, a critical consideration in this endeavor is ensuring that the resultant developments serve the needs of the community without succumbing to the pitfalls of substandard construction or unaffordable luxury apartments. There is the risk of replicating past mistakes, such as those evident in the North Hollywood area, where new developments failed to address affordability concerns while simultaneously perpetuating poor urban design practices. Therefore, any such initiatives must prioritize not only the creation of housing units but also the enhancement of urban livability for present and future residents. By adopting a comprehensive approach that balances affordability, quality, and sustainability, cities can strive towards creating inclusive and vibrant communities for all.

I'm from Istanbul in turkey and I wonder that how Japan big cities can stayed organize and affordable with that much people. Because in here we can't pay our rent with all of our salaries and also I am interested Japans' urban design. We have a bit different problems with an American cities. American cities mostly have suburbs and thus it lost their most valuable lands and rents getting higher. But in turkey we have "gecekondu" -chicken translate like: night settle-. people made their single-storey houses without any permission or legal remedy in state lands and in years government give this lands to that people and big construction firms get a contract with fifty-fifty gain. So no one makes any long term upper scale urban planning. things developed flucky :( we must learn more from japans

There was a time when public universities was tuition free. Where the federal & state gov't funded public universities. But a major political shift changed that dramatically. When something in America goes wrong blame Reagan. Ronald Reagan and the right wingers didn't have a good relationship with college facility. Reagan painted college protesters as illegitimate. He called protesters "filthy speech advocates." People protested against the Vietnam War and civil rights. He called protesters neurotic and they only wanted to cause chaos. He said young people have been indoctrinated throughout their lifetime. As governor of California he cut state funding for public higher education, set the precedent for public universities to shift to tuition, he even brought the National Guard in to squash student protesters. He framed universities as a problem, and unpatriotic institutions, and welfare queens that trained public funds socialism. He also changed laws allowing higher fees to students in order to make up for budget shortfalls. He cut 11 billion from the operating budget, he cut 116 million, which wiped out the cost of living salary increases for state employees, judges and faculty in universities & state colleges. He allowed colleges to take in out of state students expected to pay higher fees. Reagan continued his assault on public education. grants decreased. Other states followed California's lead in decreasing public spending on higher education. He spent his entire campaign villainizing college students. The masses didn't care if he defunded every public institution as long as he didn't raise taxes. 1984 was the last year a university received more grants than loans. After this, America abandoned funding public universities that now saddles students with crippling debts. America became a country that thinks reducing deficit spending is more important than social mobility but never actually cut deficit spending. The federal deficit actually went up which means public higher education was gutted for nothing. He rebranded public institutions as wasteful debt-generating welfare queens. When actually investments in public universities paid dividends, it boosted the economy and created jobs and allowed for more social mobility. Educated people tend to act out against political order. Reagan & advisers couldn't allow this to happen so they set a new agenda and changed Americans lives forever.

The problem with Toronto is it makes poverty ghettos by putting safe injection centres, methadone clinics, homeless shelters and homeless community health clinics all in one area. Then the parks in all the surrounding areas of course become tent cities. The city then sends people to these areas to access resources. Politicians concentrate these services outside their areas and designated “good areas”. Homeless shelters should not be massive. It is not mentally healthy for people to be crammed in like sardines. Instead focus on building lots of supportive housing connecting people directly to an apartment that is transitional or permanent with supports on site while they have a choice to move into private separate apartments when ready if they choose. There simply isn’t enough housing to intake all the people here and wealthier new residents to the city slowly gentrify people out. Mixed income housing is important, but not with massive concentration of substance user services and shelters that consume areas. Smaller pockets allow for areas to not be overwealmed. People can say things discriminatory, but I argue those people have never lived in such areas. A central place to send all homeless people just concentrates a social issue which stems from poor housing policy and a lack of affordable housing and addiction resources. There is an assumption that all poor people have something in common and want to be housed together and that is not true.
