Nice talk... enjoyed it. Enjoyed your casual manner. and not sure if your Irish but you got those Irish eyes and they smile. I demystify "no self" but focusing on emptiness which it seems you were indirectly pointing to. Thanx again.

3:55 civilization has institutionalized the three poisons of Buddhism, which are: 1. Greed and desire 2. Aversion and hatred/aggression 3. Delusion, ignorance, misunderstanding, the most fundamental one of which is not understanding our total, inescapable interconnectedness

Western civilization is indeed guilty of "advancing" by use of killing, lying and stealing. But look at the history of Japan. Look at China. Even in tribal societies of pre European America, killing, stealing, slavery, and brutality all existed. This is a human condition problem. Even the societies that had deep connection to nature were often brutal. The big difference is Western European societies have lost the connection to nature and thus are destroying nature in an effort to control it. So, yes, the work of realization is the answer to the problems of the world, but no race or society has really collectively transcended ego.

Thank you. I personally and some people whom I consider as deeply well inforned, as Prof. Yanis Varoufakis from Greece, the former Minister of Economy agree. Many people say that it has always been like this, up to the wars which I am missing in your talk. - To allow, what you are bringing in, remaining undiscussed, makes me speechless. - I hope that there will be a chance for Europe to get independant from the US, from Nato. Because many of us feel urged into the paradigm of warfare instead of love, sharing, save the small ethnies which are threatened to be exterminated just like animals. I am engaged in Pax Christi, which really go for disarmament, are in the streets, at military bases, writing letters to members of Parliament that we do not want school children to be informed about the necessity to serve as soldiers. These have become our huge problems, whereas at the same social thinking, welfare, money for education... are cut down. This will further cause aggression... so that people are frightened and not at all ready to think of the so-called environment. A European movement seems to grow, I hope that some ethical guidelines similar to our vows are implanted. This is very, very roughly our situation, in my eyes. Collaboration for true democracy is on.

There's the other place where they got a new Abbot. So not all of us are like that. Second thing, the genre is humor. Third, religion and politics do not intersect. These are peaceful people.

I’m from a Lam Te Thien Tradition of Vietnam, I practiced both the Koan practice and Jhanas system post Kensho to the 9th Jhana, yes both return the practitioner to the source of the Buddha Nature. Maha Boowa, the former head ofThai Forest Tradition went through to the 9th Jhana and experiences the same. Vietnamese Zen practice makes experiences the Jhanas with the letting go practice which simplifies Jhanas a lot. Traditional Chan texts writes more about Jhanas and Sati than people know. A lot of them are not available in English or carried through to Japanese Zen. The Zen practice is 24/7 awareness which leads to open awareness at all times. Liberation comes from being aware and awake with Buddha nature at all times after the mind is purified.
