What a lovely, elegant tone, crisp and yet warm. The piece was played beautifully with much feeling and exquisite structural clarity.

Hello. Thank you for the wonderful video. I am a university lecturer in Japan. I will be giving a presentation on my research on Vermeer's virginals at an academic conference next week, and I was wondering if I could use your video showing the structure of the Ruckers virginal.
@brighentiharpsichords72212 ай бұрын
Dear Sir, thank you for your message and sorry for the delay of my reply. I would be honoured you you will use my video for your conference. Please, if possible keep me informed about your research about Vermeer's virginals! My email is [email protected]. Best wishes. MB

Dear Sir,Thank you for your reply.And thank you for giving me permission to use the video.I think that the video will help those attending the conference understand what Luckers' virginals were like. I particularly appreciate the video, as I thought it would be difficult to convey the spinet-type structure, its tone, and the fact that the body and case are integrated. I will email you later.Warm regards @@brighentiharpsichords7221

What is a "spinet virginal?" I'm familiar with spinets and virginals, so I'm wondering which features of both are included in this instrument.
@brighentiharpsichords72214 ай бұрын
"Spinet-virginal" is a conventional word for distinguishing it from the other type of virginal made by ancient flemish makers, the "muselar-virginal". They both have the same shape, but muselar has the keyboard on the right and spinet-virginal on the left. Great is the difference of the sound because spinet-virginal has the plucking points near the nut (as all the other instruments of the harpsichord family) and muselar has the plucking points near the half of the string.

Did the original have a full 4 octave compass? A beautiful instrument. Lacrimae is a wonderful piece to show off the sonority. Thank you. Cheers

@@brighentiharpsichords7221 Yes I thought so, did you have to change the scaling to do the revalement?
@brighentiharpsichords72215 ай бұрын
@@moogfooger no, the scaling is the same as the original. I added only some cm to the lenght of the instrument, a piece of nut and of bridge. But, apart the added bass strings, all the compass has the same scaling as the original.

Il timbro è molto gradevole. Per niente secco o aspro, è cristallino, sostiene bene e canta. ...I brani eleganti prendono così naturalmente vita e risultano convincenti. Molto bello✨👍

The restor’d 1736 harpsichord has an exquisite tone quality to it-the rather blanch’d & boring Colour of its wooden exterior / veneer is unfortunately quite unattractive & should be very carefully - artfully painted perhaps in the Italian or Flemish stile of the period but the actual mechanics of this marvellous reproduction of the original 1736 instrument is a credit to modern harpsichord builders who never cease to amaze me with their precision and patient attention to mechanical details of such a difficult instrument to copy properly
@brighentiharpsichords72212 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliments! I agree that it would be nicer if painted but in this case the customer required an unpainted instrument. It has been a chance for showing in a video all the handmade dovetail joints of the case. All the wood you see is the nude structure of this harpsichord, no veneer has been used.

Hi Marco: Bravo: I've played the Boston Hemsch many times (it's in the Museum of Fine Arts, close by). This copy sounds exceptional and looks beautiful in every detail as well. The original is long-scaled (more so than the later "Paris" Hemschs). Did you place this at A=390, transposable to 415/440? Cheers, Peter

Hello, I have wach the video of you playing on your copy of the 1599 I. Ruckers Spinet-Virginal and I find it so beautiful that I composed a piece in a neo-renaissance style called "the legend of Hyperborea". Would you like to look at the score to see if you like it and maybe if that is the case, enjoy playing it? I could send you the score by mail if you want. Keep going on your wonderful work and have a great day. Emmanuel
