Its like the one from Tetris & Dr. Mario on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System which used an organ for the Tetris theme!

Thanks! This particular organ isn't that old - late 1970's - but one gets the hang of it!

This actually works very well on a church organ. It has a sort of early modernist sound about it, like Saint-Saens or Faure.

I do not care for this harmony, it is far too distracting. The best harmony to accompany this hymn is by John Rush from The Parish Hymn Book.
@matthewwright55522 жыл бұрын
That's so true. John Rush did an amazing job editing the Parish Hymnal. The Harmonies before were appalling. The Leeds Hymnal Harmony is atrocious but your correct the Rush Harmony is the best which is undoubtably why it was used in the London Oratory the New Catholic Hymn Book"
@sb66782 жыл бұрын
@@matthewwright5552 I am so glad that you agree, it is second to none and he has also written some very fine harmonisations to other hymns in the PHB. I am aware of the harmony too in the Leeds Hymnal, there are some other atrocious harmonies in that too. If you want to take a look at the absolute worst harmony, you need to have a look at Hymns used by the pupils of the sisters of Norte Dame, Rockcliff, Liverpool 1891. There is also a worthy harmony in a little known publication “Parochial” hymn book, Lancaster 1880 - different from the American publication of the same name by Anatole Police. I would say that the New Catholic Hymn Book is a very worthy successor by the Oratory from William Pitts’ original Oratory Hymns of 1875.
@matthewwright55522 жыл бұрын
@@sb6678it is indeed. I have a copy of the SND book they must have used it in the Parish here at some point. William Pitts was of course the Oratory first organist. He wrote that wondrous tune for Princethorpe. Used for Jesus Thou art Coming at First Holy Communion before things"changed". Although now a days a lot of people haven't heard of the Oratory the Hymns of its founder Fr Faber inspired generations of Catholics and we're sung over the English speaking world

We are privileged to have a two manual Kenneth Jones organ on which to practice in St Colman’s College Violet Hill, it is a fine instrument which sees near continuous use throughout most of the school year, and it is always a joy to get to play it!

"by no means a concert performance" but i'm grateful for the concert nonetheless. a favourite tune of mine for some 50 years now, "My Young Life" unexpectedly turned up on the soundtrack of the Scand-Noir series "Trapped" - episode 3 towards the end, the sunny living-room scene.
