This is definitely not a beginner's guide and most of these items are not essentials. That setup costs so much money, why would a beginner spend this much money when he doesn't even know if he will continue hiking long term? There is no reason to make beginner's believe that the barrier to entry to hiking is several hundreds dollars. If you are a beginner go buy some cheap Walmart camping gear and just GO hike, to see if you enjoy it before spending thousands for a setup like this. Yes cheap gear is worse but you can still hike with it, the tittle says essentials but what is essential about a 600$ tent? essentials means necessary. You missed the mark with this video I feel like it's more of a setup showcase which is fine but the tittle is misleading in that case.

We did Gilbert Ray a year ago- end of Jan last year. Totally agree- loved it/thought it was gorgeous. We had a smaller van (now sold) and we came down the mountain pass which was mildly terrifying! Definitely would love to camp there again. Have a 21ft older chinook RV now.

Just FYI, it's not named Hells Canyon because it's hot or resembles anything like Hell. It's named after a Mr. Haller who piloted a cargo ship through the canyon in 1895. Either from what he said when he saw the rapids, or because of inaccurate repetition of his name in the phrase "Haller's Canyon," the name "Hells Canyon" stuck. Nice video!

Hey, Jon! Happy New Year. I love that you’re getting to explore more of my former home state of Arizona. Sedona is amazing. You were the person who first sparked my interest in the Sawtooth Mountains, and now they’re my absolute favorite place on Earth. Thank you for always putting out such wonderful and informative videos. You’re definitely exploring Arizona at the right time of year. It’s a scorcher about nine months out of the year.

I've lived in Arizona most of my life (I am now retired). It amazes me how many times they have announced that the Lost Dutchman Mine has been found, only to find out later that they are still looking for it. I always keep a glimmer of hope that it really is there, and that it will be found in my lifetime. And the search continues...

Something about posting a trip like this for 10s of thousands of people to see if not more just feels exploitative…I was lucky enough to have taken a trip like this in the early 90s with friends of family who were experienced river travelers… I don’t know but it just hurts my soul to have these sacred places be shown to anyone scrolling KZbin… places like this are so special and it feels like only a matter of time until social media puts them all on blast to the masses. And I would hope that legacy families like those on this video would CRAVE to keep these places from being blown UP with tourism… and much love to anyone and everyone who is watching/thinking about going there.. please do and be respectful/appreciative.. the world is your oyster but PLEASE RESPECT

The is a design fault though in high winds. It's thd valvro tab that attaches the rain cover to the pole. In high winds it just comes undone then the tent folds in at the end the winds at. Done it twice to me.

Oh wow!! The fact you didn’t research this more is embarrassing for you. The “Little geysers” are why is it ‘blue heart’. The “little geysers” formulate and create and small sand barge in the middle that looks like heart. Which definitely looks blue. And yes it’s blue because of the surrounding waters and foliage, sun shade, etc. However, most anyone from this area knows this info and the fact you didn’t even confirm with any local is kinda shameful. However, cool video of our Idaho amazing spot. In fact, your description of where it is is a little suspect. For those actually wanting to see this spot get better directions from locals. This here is just silly.

Got to admit, it's a tiny place. No fries. No lettuce or tomato. It's good but nothing I would wait 30-60 mins for. Period. Cash only. Plan on waiting and waiting for your order. It's hyped up. Five guys smokes em, Absolutely. Parking is almost impossible. Just saying. It's good but not worth it imo

Hey Jon. Nice video again there. Also, loved your Hells Canyon jet boat trip and backpack. Ended up doing that one too with a small group of friends May 2023. God it was stinkin hot. Anyhow, hoping to visit the Sawtooths in late September or a few days into October. Is this a bad idea? Prefer the cooler temperatures and lack of bugs in the fall. Also, the clearer skies generally. That area seems to have so many stunning lakes.
