Sorta neat to have taken note of how many covers from Roxy’s Avalon Robyn has been recorded covering. I’ve compiled them to this playlist if you wanna check ‘em out.
I often wonder if Gene himself ever heard this, or Andie MacDowell?

Big fan of Robyn's, hadn't heard this before, so thanks for posting. Agree with many of the comments, including the one re "earnest". He is minimised and marginalised by being funny, but many people miss the earnest in him. The saddest and most earnest songs often start with a joke, just to get rid of it!
@trianglesfalling9 жыл бұрын
douglas wright He's fantastic. Hope to see him one day. I adore his cover of Syd Barrett's Dominoes - v haunting ..
@douglaswright21439 жыл бұрын
He makes more sense as an artist live, in my opinion, so I would encourage to see him live.

douglas wright. His studio work is too good to justify that. Some don't like his voice. I like it and believe he's a very impressive singer.

Definitely one of my favorite gigs of all time ... Watching Jake play bass on that tiny boat without falling over ... the slowest beer flow of all time, and utterly brilliant music ... Who out there still has their ticket to prove it? :)

What, every song must be a serious, articulate masterpiece? This is whimsical, absurd, slapdash brilliance. It seems likely you should try to enjoy your life a bit more, open up to the lighter, comedic touches. They're just as rewarding, and they make the dark bits darker by contrast.

Bet it went all downhill after grade 4 eh ...Got a job as a toilet brush in the local disco and worked your way up to a mop... Criticise somebody who deserves it you parasite... Robyn Hitchcock certainly doesn't.

This is very hard to play. Robyn is guy who has been out there for years, playing solo a lot of the time. He understands, maybe, as he said, from his appreciation of "Visions of Johanna," how one guy can get up there with a wood box and six strings and an understanding of the heart, and make people get the shivers. Thanks for posting. And thanks Robyn.
