What are some of the challenges you faced as an author 🤔

Each book has different challenges. For Leyla’s Quest, it was the tying up of so many different civilisations and making the story cohesive. Understudying Leyla, an e-gamer, took me one year with many input from my daughters. I had to actively play e-games, it was alien to me. But this book brought so much joy. I went to Istanbul to marvel and breathe the air in the city where many scenes took place. For Dragonlore, an idea that stayed with me for 12 years became a reality bigger than I could ever imagine. I was connecting with such talented writers from all over the world… Writing anthologies and book series take time. I guess the biggest challenge is time management and finding the time to write. Working and collaborating with writers and illustrators from everywhere can be daunting, but exciting as well. These stories have a tendency to over power me and I have to force myself to stop thinking of my characters. I have 5 girls, a job, my Mum, friends… !

Thank you for your question! I have to take a step back and think about that. Usually the story comes to me like bubbles coming up to the surface. Ideas float around and I let them simmer. Then the characters begin to materialise. This is usually when I start writing. I will write a synopsis of the story and a description of the stories. About this time I start writing down the chapters. I just published LEYLA’S QUEST, and I recently found my earliest synopsis. The protagonist was Luna and Adam. They were two e-gamers set to unravel mysteris of the world. Very different from the story today. By the way for LEYLA i had to write two stories! Then brought them together.

Every writer has different goals. Mine is to retell our hikayat and legends from around the world so that we can appreciate the rich culture and heritage behind them. I also travel the world through legends and invite readers to do the same!

I only have basic Italian, French and Mandarin. BUT I insist on writing poetry in these languages. The best stories are written in the simplest language. A story can be written in 3 sentences. Today you write 3 sentences, perfect it. Tomorrow write a paragrapgh to perfection. And never stop writing. I am now working with a mental patient who is writing the most erratic poems - but he tells great stories.

Hello Pramika! I think best way for me to stay productive has been to spend my time with other productive and focused people. That usually encourages me to do the same. And for your second question, you can build yourself up to face money issues by starting to learn how to manage money as young as you possibly can. That is really helpful. For example, learning how to earn money as a teenager.

Hello Qaseh, thank you for your question! 😊 I think what motivates me when I am at my lowest is actually taking a break and refocusing on why I am doing what I am doing. Many times when I had a BIG failure or when I had a low moment, I had to sit down and think about what I wanted to achieve. This usually gets me excited and even though it is not easy to get back up, focusing on the goal gives me strength. Hope that helps. 😊

I don’t think one can retire as a co-founder. But I did ‘retire’ as a CEO and I have found many other ways I can continue to contribute towards the vision of Ascendance. From guiding the young team, helping to connect people and bringing the cause to more places.
