Perhaps the “portable ascension weapon” is the Saint. Seven Red Sun tells about a triple affirmative, and Saint has a three dot mark in his forhead so he can ascend every body. He is the answer that every iterator was looking for.

Cyan lizard are kinda tricky to avoid or even kill. But know that if you have a Vulture mask or they haven't noticed you try to stab them with a spear. If you hit they're body just right they will go flying due to you puncturing some sort of organ that makes them do these boost jumps

What happens if you try to ascend yourself as Saint, when you put the ascending cursor on yourself and wait for it to activate, does it just kills you or something else happens, or perhaps nothing happens

It makes me wonder if Slugcats were the solution that Sliver found. Somehow they made an organism that did exactly what the Triple Affirmative was. The full realized potential of the Slugcat is an organism that can ascend everyone without being ascended. Kind of ironic because it is essentially the Iterators passing the burden on to another organism like their creators did to them.

It's kinda fun that iterators technically useless Their creators aren't alive anymore, they won't live enough to see rise of next civilization, and current lifeforms don't seem to be wanting to ascend So it means iterators were doomed since start of their creation - their past is useless, their future is useless, and their current state is useless

My theory is that saint is some kind of "balancer" of this world, who comes when world gets overpopulated

I've waited nearly a year to watch this till I'd finally completed all campaigns so not to spoil it for myself. Just wanted to say it was well worth the wait, specifically the voice acting of Pebals and Moon is wonderfully done.

One note: The "Ego" by definition, is nothing but your "youness" to put it simply. The Saint likely knew its purpose, and was fully enveloped mentally by it. It wasn't pride or a thought of "being better" in my opinion that prevented it from ascending, but simply the fact that its personality was too strong. And I only say this because the pearls never said that you had to be "prideful" to not ascend, only that you needed a significantly powerful ego. I believe it's easy to misinterpret the word ego since we often conflate it with the word "egotistical" which is to be self absorbed and such, so I felt like clearly pointing out the difference was important in this case.

I’m so mad at everything now. I have the subtitles on and when it says “Do you know Sliver of Straw? She’s quite legendary among us.” It CAPITALIZED THE AMONG US BECAUSE IT THOUGHT IT WAS TALKING ABOUT THE GAME!!! FP WAS ON TO SOMETHING, MACHINES CAN GET BRAIN ROT!!!

Awesome video. Great voice acting, too, although Five Pebbles' voice was unexpected to me. I always thought "Erratic Pulse" would speak much more quickly. Also, Five Pebbles is comparatively young. As to the lore itself (if you're reading this, watch the video first): The Great Problem: One of the only pearls containing dialogue from the ancients speaks of their duty to assist Five Pebbles in assisting all the lesser beings of the world. The iterators were primarily created to figure out how to ascend everything, especially those things that lack sufficient intelligence to attempt to ascend themselves (like lizards and maybe even some plants). All slugcat endings: You kept talking about how the ascension endings are mostly non-canon, but aren't all of them compatible (except for Artificer)? Spearmaster delivered the message then ascended, Hunter delivers his gift to Moon then tries to ascend, Gourmand could've returned from Outer Expanse (if he even exists. This fact is openly questioned by the game and its devs), Rivulet just goes to the void after staying with Moon for a while, etc. Artificer: Artificer doesn't properly ascend regardless. I think other comments have suggested everything I could talk about. Judging by the echo monologue in Metropolis, though, Artificer's attempt at ascension would likely turn her into an echo, except that ending is called "Acceptance" I think? Maybe she learns to let go? Survivor/Monk: Survivor couldn't have ascended because he is present for one of Monk's endings! Wellll... they could have ascended later. More likely, Monk was just trying to follow Survivor. If Monk goes to Outer Expanse, Survivor MUST have gone there too, so that's why Survivor is there. Rivulet: Rivulet could be some form of messenger send by an iterator to grab Pebbles' rarefaction cell, but I think it's likely not the case. Rivulet can move extremely quickly, so maybe she (Rivulet just looks female, honestly) has been able to visit several different iterators (who likely told her about Pebbles and Moon). Her pearl could have been discovered randomly or more likely given my an iterator as a helpful map through their superstructures. I don't think other iterators would have Five Pebbles' maintenance orders sitting around their cans. Saint: Everything is a dream: when I entered Rubicon, it was clear that everything there was either in or inspired by Saint's mind. Maybe Saint was a slugcat who was obsessed with reaching maximum karma and/or ascending and/or assisting others to ascend. He attempted to ascend, became an echo, and now he simply dreams that he returns in physical form to ascend everything. This would explain him gaining silly abilities like flight after reaching max karma. Buddha: others have said this plenty: Saint is like some form of Buddha who intentionally rejects ascension. The void worm(s) helps beings to ascend properly by dragging them down. Saint tries to ascend the void worm, thus rejecting its help and instead attempting to relieve the void worm of its task. The game's files seem to indicate there are several void worms, not just one, so maybe Saint keeps returning to the void sea to ascend each worm. (Side note: maybe the void worms ARE echoes in some form. Maybe those who aren't helped by the worms can't go deep enough to ascend, so they grow tentacles and become like the worms. Maybe every worm in the void sea has a corresponding ghost somewhere in Rain World, so Saint is literally ascending the echoes?) Purposed organism: Saint qualifies as the Triple Affirmative. He can ascend anything and go anywhere. Maybe Saint was the creation of an iterator (or any other powerful entity, or maybe Sliver of Straw specifically?) to ascend every creature in Rain World. The devs have confirmed that Saint was born after Sliver of Straw died, but honestly... I'm not sure the devs actually have any official lore. Downpour sometimes seemed poorly stitched together by fans modders. Disappointing. Saint is a descendant of a purpose organism: Maybe Saint is the descendant of some other iterator's Triple Affirmative creation. He does begin with the second karma level, after all... maybe there could be many Saint-like slugcats running around.

I got this video in my recommendations a couple of months ago having no idea what Rain World is, and now I'm a new fan. Thanks so much for introducing me to such a gem of a game!

I don't think the ascension endings are "not canon". Nothing about the Hunter's different endings suggests one is more canon than the other, simply that the death one happens to be the one with a visible influence on the future.

I don't think that the cycle is NECESSARILY unpleasant, but rather than the idea of ascending above it was simply something culturally important to the ancients at some point. For instance, in Buddhism, even though people believe they are reincarnated after death, there is still an ideal goal in reaching nirvana and ascending from this cycle of life and death. The suffering the ancients experienced was likely similar to everyday human suffering and not specifically worse.

Everything in rain world surrounding the iterators makes me so sad. They truly care about each other but they can’t do much to help one another. The broadcasts between Seven Red Suns and No Significant Harassment truly demonstrate the friendship and mutual respect they hold for one another. The channels between various other iterators sometimes aren’t as serious, showing the player that these machines are just as alive as we are, and have fun talking to one another. They gossip just as much as they consult with one another. We are shown that the iterators care about the slugcats who interact with them, and see them not only as companions, but as truly sentient living beings who are capable of making choices. These machines are cursed to slowly die off unless they solve their problem fast enough. And moon and pebbles are just so tragic. Pebbles gives everything he’s got for her because he knows neither of them have the time, and he knows he can’t truly make it up to her. It’s not enough to fully help her, but it’s all he can do. It’s so awful and sad and gahhhh it makes me cry
