Great skiing Jeff. We met at Mary Jane in 2014 when I flew over from Germany for Bumpupalooza. Still there, still tilting at moguls, this season on touring skis!

In Colorado we had a permanent snow field that we called St. Mary's Glacier. We had to hike it but I skied it on the 4th of July several times and did the skiing for a ski commercial that we filmed in late July 1978. I got the worst sunburn of my life that day. I was working in restaurants and had no tan so the next day working in the 100 degree kitchen was horrible.

do you remember when they put up the orange fencing at the top of The Wall to stop us from hucking it? Then we just shot the gap instead. Good times.

Hey Jeffy, Taos Todd. Great stuff. We are having a rough start down here in New Mexico as far as snow fall this year. I'll see if I can make to Bupaplooza this go around.

I think both techniques look great.. I saw Joey at the Mogul Championship back at Snow Valley back in the 80's. Phenomenal skier for that time and skill at the time. I actually skied with Jeffy at the Bumpapalooza meet up at Winterpark Colorado. He and the others like Don, Brian Patrick and Mike and others are fantastic. Simply different styles, but both are very tight and controlled.

Thanks : ) I agree with what you said, that rookies will do better pole planting on top. I like to reach for the backs because it keeps my hands lower when I absorb deep on huge moguls (so my hands don't end up by my ear or something when I'm compact). People that get out of the stacked position when reaching may be reaching with their body too much while they should just more aim with the angle of their pole.
@nicholasklein332612 жыл бұрын
i've seen your vid, what's your take on reaching for the pole plant? By the way you are very fast and efficient.
@nicholasklein332612 жыл бұрын
All i got to say is watch Pat Daneen and his hands. Calm and cool (beautiful). I think A.B would crush these guys. With all i've seen on the importance of calm hands it's hard to believe in their method of reaching a bit for the mogul. I've seen alot of rookies reaching and it pulls them out of a stacked position. If you are experienced in bumps go for a further forward plant. Rookies on the other hand will usually end up out of position trying for this method.

basically i now understand the finer points of SVMM and i think they're great - shane as their mascot is like one of the most exciting bump skiiers i've ever seen - but the insecurity and bitchiness especially from the weaker (and the most vocal) SVMM guys who believe that their low-speed low-impact bump skiing is superior to 'typical' world cup style just because WC isn't SVMM. for all the good SVMM has, i can't get past that level of tackiness!

Shane is a great kid I was there when both he and Tine were born,, I go back with the family to the early 70's, Barb is a SAINT to put up with Joey's shit HE IS A FUCKING SELF CENTERED POFS!~ Joey for Joey and Nobody but Joey!~ FUCK HIM!~ He is lucky he has not had his ass beaten savagely,,,,, yet, I told Barb he better keep his mouth shut around me next time he says anything to me like there is the squid he is bloody meat!~

yeah, i initially scoffed at the dudes because of the attitude, but then i saw the vid of shane, which blew my mind, and i genuinely got curious. problem is some of the SVMM guys, in particular a guy(s) who consistently puts up vids of well-known pros just to bag on them - and the guy in question's own skiing is incredibly weak and hard to watch. i see how SVMM provides ego boost (hence -> philosophy)to guys who'll never hit a certain speed/skill, which is sad because SVMM has great points to it

I also still think that they're aiming for a part of the mogul that makes no sense from a technical point of view. Why aim for the biggest part of the obstacle? I don't think the way of absorbing is effective either. Anyway, just my opinion.
@BoolaBear13 жыл бұрын
I read recently how Joey claims he "invented" SVMM. How do you invent something that is a natural movement for many people? That's like saying "I invented walking with your toes pointed inward". If you're pigeon toed, that's just how it happens, and if that's happening, (being pigeon toed) it's not necessarily a good thing lol. I have seen uncoached skiers sticking their hips out in round turns for years and years, and regardless of how they make it sound, I think that's all they're doing.
@9livesoffroad6 жыл бұрын
Joey is a self centered fuck & I should know I knew him better then anyone but his family,,, which I was a part of until I got blown painting and almost lost my life up because of him!~ FUCK THAT POS!~

"No class".... yeah, I have been noticing these guy's attitudes on the internet more lately than I did before. Now I get why many people have a problem with them. I think these guys are just insecure and they want everyone to believe that they are the best skiers in the world even though they're not, so they start arguments trying to convince people that they're way of skiing is the best, so people will believe that 'they' are the best.
@9livesoffroad6 жыл бұрын
NO CLASS with joey cordeau is an understatement, He is a fucked up POS of a human,, So fucking what if he can ski a mogul, he could never beat me ski racing so he dont make that great of a turn!~ FUCK THAT POS!~

The nice thing about skiing the palmer bumps is that they are for the most part used by skiers who usually halfway know what their doing and it maintains a decent zipper line and snowboarders don't constantly shave them down. However it's not steep enough to really hammer em. The best thing is skiing in the middle of the summer an hour away from home.

@tlining Hi Tom.. Boy do I remember you guys...! You guys rocked. What was the guys name that wore that Devo hat? He was such a bad ass. In fact his skiing form impacted me so much that I replicated it to a tee and thats only way I know how to ski. What are you guys up to these days? I hope you continue to ski? I know that I turned 46 this year and I live in New Mexico and Taos is right up the road with some of the best mogul skiing around.

Do you know that one guys name that wore the Devo hat? You guys alway ripped the Wall in the Wall contest every year. In fact I wear a red ski jacket to pay homage to you guys. What are you guys doing these days? I hope still active in mogul skiing. Todd

@Gotama456 The lines are technically not open to the public. However, if you are there and ask one of the coaches very nicely if you may ski some runs on their lines if you promise to stay out of the camps way and not hit the jumps, there is usually no problem.

I had some euro dip-shit tell me I couldn't ski the bump on Palmer many years ago. To which I replied "eat shit, you don't own the mountain"; which they don't the only thing they could do is dis-allow my riding their lift. I never heard another word from him or anyone else for the rest of the day or the other 50or so times I've skied Palmer. It probably didn't hurt I skied the bumps better than him or any of his cohorts.
