I’ve had my mirider 1 for 2 years and covered over 2100 miles. My favourite thing on it is the boost button. It hasn’t been trouble free cycling by a long chalk and is in the repair shop again and it needs £450 spending on it so I’m scrapping it and will probably go with a Brompton.
@keep-going2 ай бұрын
@johnstait483 it's the shame you have to scrap it. If you go for the Brompton electric, it will probably cost you about 2.5K. Have a look at the Volt Metro. It's a bike that's very reliable and comes in at 2K new.

Thank you for sharing this video with the KZbin community. I have a query: Did the 6-speed addition give you lower gearing for climbing? I understand that you can also achieve lower gearing with a smaller front chain ring, too. I'm asking because I'm trying to decide on a 3-speed or a 6-speed Brompton C line. Many thanks for your reply. I, too, am getting older and trying to keep active! Liked and subscribed.
@keep-going3 ай бұрын
@Tanstaafl1976 Hi, having 6 speed will make very little difference and will cost you around £400 Just change the front chain ring, and you will see a massive difference for around £20
@Tanstaafl19763 ай бұрын
@@keep-going I recently (i.e., over the past 2 days) had the opportunity to choose between a 3- and 6-speed C line Explore - same British racing green color, relatively new, and in great shape. I chose the 6-speed because the seller was amenable to lowering his price AND threw in a $240 Borough Roll Top Bag (Large) and $210 rear rack, plus the sought-after 44-tooth front chain ring and several additional pairs of various rear rack wheels that I could substitute in if I wished. Another factor for me is my knee, which can cause me some problems. Having the lower gearing of the 6-speed on hills can help mitigate the risk of some pain and troubles on the trail. "Pam" breaks down these differences in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYCoiIhroZpsa9k I do like the idea of the 3-speed, quite honestly. I've been reading up on the differences, and it seems that the consensus is that the 3-speed is a bullet-proof and reliable performer.

@@Tanstaafl1976 Greetings. I have a M6R with titanium fork and rear triangle since 2012. About 2 years ago I changed the chainring from 50 to 44 teeth. Have never had a transmission problem, and only parts changed were the pedals and the seat post clamp (once). I would alway choose 6 gears because the gear range of 302% vs 177% for 3 speeds. That is because we like to go fairly fast in general and downhill in particular with our BromptonNYC club. (Am 65 years old). New York is not particularly hilly, with some nasty exceptions.
@Tanstaafl19763 ай бұрын
@@oe59 Thanks for this feedback and it's great to know that switching to the 44-tooth up front won't cause any shifting probs. I just had my maiden voyage aboard my M6R yesterday and experimented with its gears while riding to and on the beach path in L.A. The lowest gear was lower than I expected, but in fall 2025 I plan to take it to So. Korea to ride the 633km Four Rivers Ride over a week's time - here's just one of many vids of that ride: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWq9hqqjlrpjqK8 I'm packing for wild camping so I'll be a little weighted down. That 6-speed trans, coupled with the 44-tooth up front, will come in handy because there are some climbs on the route. And, right on! I'm 66 and will be 67 when I do this ride! Cheers!
@keep-goingАй бұрын
@Tanstaafl1976 having a smaller front chain ring is the way to go. 6 speed makes little difference, and you will have a big outlay.

You never show the MIRIDER, but a Brompton was invented in the seventies and not at all intended for Electric Assist. So of course any Set will be an add-on. A Brompton is intended for easy transport as folded and only if necessary, for actual riding, as the small wheels make it a horrible, hard rolling bike! I know as an owner of a now weighing much less and much modified "Superlight" from 2019😁(9 kilo)! A little like "the wheel" it was fine at first try, and can't be made much better if looking different (Near all other are half-hearted tries to make a Copy, and only fold to a much more filling, Half Bike, except those which are direct Copies, now the Patent has run out). I have owned an assisted Makita Folder, but it was absurdly more heavy and only folded half, with its two battery Pack, for a short distance use. My Brompton I may put in the back of my car for driving to Service and also during Vacations, if needing a bike during those. Finn. Denmark

@finncarlbomholtsrensen11884 ай бұрын
@@keep-going I have found pictures of the MIRIDER, and it looks smart, but still only fold to a ½ bike, so it isn't an actual competitor to a Brompton. Like the American, former Army type Bike: Montague, which is an Mtb with "normal size" wheels, which also folds ½! I'm sure if needing a bike for their purposes, both are fine in their way, but if needing the Fold, none is better than the Brompton compromize between portability and riding a bike. Finn

@@keep-going Okay, I'm sorry but I haven't noticed those. And before Covid19 I looked at several types assisted folding bikes for an Import from China, and then got my Makita from a Sale here in Denmark. Using two Tool Batteries its efficient riding distance was limited, though I could have brought several batteries in a bag, of course? But riding from my own power feels better and more assuring, at least. Finn

@allanb29064 ай бұрын
I'm glad that you're enjoying your MiRider. I looked at buying one, well two actually mainly because my wife struggles to walk any distance because of knee issues. In the end I opted for the Brompton electric. The main reason was down the the fold which means that I can get 2 Bromptons in the car plus luggage for uk touring. I couldn't do this with two MiRiders plus luggage. As with most things in life there are trade offs and compatibility was the most important factor for us. I used to put our traditional bikes on roof mounted carriers but I'm getting too old for that and bikes are heavy. Enloy your MiRider and happy cycling.

There’s no right or wrong with these things, and if you enjoy the Mirider more, job’s a good ‘un. There’s no denying that Brompton’s rate of evolution is somewhat glacial but I can understand why they wouldn’t want to mess with the current folding system to accommodate a battery anywhere other than the front carrier block. I love my Bromptons (I have two!) but may sell both of them to perhaps go for their Titanium model, which is absurdly priced of course.
@keep-going4 ай бұрын
@deldewar5893 you won't notice the difference with the titanium when pedalling. Perhaps trade the two for an electric Brompton. Another suggestion - Lower the gearing on your current Brompton, and you be amazed at the difference. A 42 tooth ring is very cheap to buy.

@maureenarnold-hc4sg should be ok as there is no power coming from these wires. The power goes in from the charger only. But you are right, Maureen safety first. I've now sent for the correct adapter, they are a £1 each and will just attatch the wires when it arrives. Mirider should supply these instead of forcing a new battery on us.

Not sure if has a fuse or not. Check with mirider support. Is it still in guarantee? Don't tell that you dropped your keys... Try taking a voltage reading off the battery terminals. One with the charger plugged in and one without the charger. Chances are that the reading with the charger will be higher (fully charged 42 volts). A possible reason for the green light. My battery reading was 42 volts on charge, (it displayed a green light), and 12 volts or something with no charger. Sorry, but a had to buy a new one. Although I believe they can be repaired I found the prices quoted are not far off the cost of a new one.
@keep-going4 ай бұрын

lm wishing l hadn't bought one now. I thought l had blown a fuse in the battery, so l opened it up and guess what. There is no fuse. I think that's illegal. It's basically a junk battery that costs £300 to replace. Most reputable e bike batteries all have fuses in them and are easy to replace, but all you can do with the Mirider is buy a new battery. It's outrageous. Did you manage to buy a good bike in the end, Maureen?
