If you had to choose between the Lumix 24-105 and the Samyang 35-150, which lens would you pick?
@TopshelfJunior
@TopshelfJunior Ай бұрын
Well that's the thing...that's what I had to do lol. I personally had the 24-105, and gave it to my brother because he was getting an S5II also.. At that moment I could have bought another one but, I decided to purchase the 35-150 and I think I made the right choice for a few reasons. A) I dont really shoot that much at 24mm.. I really like 35mm to be my widest focal length, and if I do need more width, I just create it w/ my feet...distance away. B) Having that 150mm to get close to things while still at distance is also a factor I love. Really allowed me to get some compositions that I wouldn't normally get. C) This is the most important.. The image stabilization on the 24-105mm while filming VIDEO, is tooooo stiff, and it doesn't allow the movement to look or feel natural. Yeah, it's buttery smooth, looks like a gimbal, but when you wanna pan or tilt, it will look too stiff. Yeah you could always turn it off but, I dunno...while filming video on the 35-150, I just felt like my clips looked more natural.

@@TopshelfJunior Thank you a lot for your answer. I asked because I have a dilemma between these two lenses. Is the image quality better with the 35-150mm than the 24-105mm? I'm interested in your feelings. And again, thank you a lot!
@TopshelfJunior
@TopshelfJunior Ай бұрын
Ummmmmm, I can't say for SURE if the image quality is better or not on the 35-150mm but, I can say I was VERY happy w/ the quality. It's definitely not less quality. If anything it's better, a better look for me I should say because...the lens opens up more. 2.0 or 2.8, there's just enough bokeh and just enough of a blur, things out of focus, to give the photos a certain look or magic, a certain umph. I found that on the 24-105, I could only open to F4 so...things were more flat I should say.. I wish I took more photos on the 24-105 but, that's why in the video I tried to take both photos and video on the 35-150mm, to show the results. It is a VERY sharp lens, at all ranges and apertures. The other thing I can say is, Samyang is officially in the L-Mount Alliance so, there is a certain quality and operation there, a certain level has to be met to be in the alliance so, you can be sure that everything will work as intended, and everything will be of a certain quality. I haven't taken the lens off my camera yet. I got rid of the 50mm 1.8 AND the 24-105F4, two lenses...just to keep ONE zoom lens on, at all times. Loving it.

These shots are amazing, I've watched it several times now and love that it's a more impromptu shoot. Currently considering the S9 coming from an S5 II. Mostly considering the swap since I could see myself carrying it with me more often because it looks less professional and it's more discreet. (I never really work in studios or on sets, so the less professional it looks the better haha) Is this just using the Himalaya LUT + a bit of in-camera grain, and that's it as far as processing goes? It really does look like film! Can you shoot jpg + lut baked in + raw for backup? I also have the Sigma 45 already, so it seems like such a good combo like you've used here. Really liking the look of the Sigma 17 and 90mm too, could be quite a nice compact 3 lens setup with the S9. Especially after I checked out "MoviChris"'s video using both, worth having a look at his latest video using both of those lenses.

Hey man, thanks for checking it out !!! Yup, definitely an impromptu shoot...and I really just wanted to get some flicks w/ the 45mm...that's what I was testing. And yeah, those images are straight out of camera, w/ the Himalaya lut, in-camera grain yup, and that's it. I didn't touch them after I shot em. I have to test if you can shoot jpeg and RAW at the same time, I dont think it will put the LUT on the jpeg and keep the RAW file without the LUT. But I do know you can shoot RAW, and apply the LUT to that in the app, later. I didnt really get the camera to shoot RAW. I got too many other cameras for that. I really just got the camera because I needed a backup (for video), but also I love that I dont have to spend any time on post. I can shoot + upload right away. I'm gonna check out the video you speak of...I don't know too much about the other Sigma lenses but, the 45mm has been great so far.

I'd probably go "all in" on the GR IIIx if it's video wasn't terrible haha but I really miss hybrid shooting like the S9 would be capable of. I think the best bet for you is to figure out what focal length you REALLY like, and then get that to start. I love a 50mm, but it's also the reason why I am on the 45mm 2.8 Sigma, it's close enough. My brother was getting an S52 so...I passed down the 50mm to him. Another thing you should think about, and I just saw this today.. B&H Photo has the S5iiX + 50mm 1.8 together in a kit, for $1800. What's up Sam. Right now, the Lumix Lab App luts and features, are only available on the S9. However, the Lumix Lab app will be available to the S5ii/X in the near future. Now...there IS the Real Time Lut feature on the S5ii, currently. You can add up to 10 luts into the S5ii, and you can also have (4) slots of customized luts. If I was you, I would buy the S5ii or S5iiX and just wait a little bit for the updates to roll out, so the camera can use the Lumix Lab App.

@TopshelfJunior
@TopshelfJunior 2 ай бұрын
Congrats on the new camera ! TBH I haven't tried to import any images into the Lumix Lab app yet.. To me, it feels like a RAW image might be too much for the app to handle but, I'm just guessing. On the other hand, it feels like they would allow that as well, so you can get more control over the colors. But I don't know. I also don't know if the 11MP is the max output. I've seen my images go anywhere between 7MP, to 15MP, to 24mp, to 13MP...I think it varies. Obviously if you shoot any of the profiles that come on the camera, you'll always get 24MP, especially if you shoot raw. I'm gonna try to google some of the things you asked though.

Hey there thanks for posting this! Any idea what your final image resolution / megapixel count is after the XPAN crop? Absolutely love that this is a feature however I’m bummed the camera isn’t 40mp due to losing resolution after the in camera XPAN crop. Sure it’s fine for online and socials but I always have in the back of my head what if my images end up in a gallery one day? Will the resolution be enough? Thanks again for this!!!
@TopshelfJunior
@TopshelfJunior 3 ай бұрын
Whatup Cody. I'm not sure what the exact resolution / megapixel count was after but, my images were still high quality and around 15MB in size or so. While the S5 - S5ii - S9 aren't "40 MP", it still has a VERY good 24MP FULL-FRAME sensor that will allow you to generate quality prints in all shooting modes. The other great thing about all the Panasonic full frame cameras being able to shoot this mode is, you can shoot RAW + JPEG in this mode...which would give you the option to see the frame for the XPan, but allow the camera and sensor to still store and save the full image, the full sensor read out, and you can crop later if need be. I however didn't need that, I chose to shoot this mode in jpeg and bake my crop in, in the camera. So if you were to buy this camera, and wanted to shoot this mode, and still be in a gallery with the images, you can. Just shoot RAW and crop later.

What is actually Xpan mode on Panasonic S9 as for photos? What I can see here is a bunch of photos where the top and bottom part have been cropped? Is there any panning here? The old-timer Fujifilm/Hasselblad XPan cameras had a 24x56mm area with lenses that were able to cover that huge width. the S9 has only a 24x36 mm sensor, the only way to take wide shot is cropping the top and bottom sections. Am I missing something?
@TopshelfJunior
@TopshelfJunior 3 ай бұрын
Hey man, first and foremost...thanks for your time, appreciate you watching. Back in the day, the Hasselblad XPan shot 65 x 24mm format.. The current Panasonic full-frame cameras, enable the camera to also shoot 65 x 24. You can select to have that ratio / bars "baked in", in camera...or you can shoot RAW where the data of the whole frame will still be saved. To be clear, nobody nor myself is saying that this is an exact replica or representation to the old school Hasselblad XPan camera, it's more so just a fun way and a fun term, to use and shoot images. It's about vision and discipline. The baked in crop can't be done on "many" digital cameras so, it's just fun composing and shooting in that "mode." If you look in the camera, it states: "Aspect ratio of panorama, 65:24." For me, seeing that on the back of the screen, and having to compose the image in THAT frame and NOT have to do any edit or post work or cropping after the fact, appealed to me and many others. "XPan Mode" on the Panasonic is simply about getting the closest digital representation of an XPan, as best we can...and for me, WITHOUT having to crop anything. Forcing me to see and compose in this cinema format brings challenges and opportunities, and this what I enjoy. All images you see, are SOOC, straight out of camera, no crops, no editing. Hope this helps man.

In the clip, that title I said, was more so...sarcasm. A joke.. Just poking fun at, jabbing at, all of the hoopla, buzz, bad reviews, bad press, negative feedback, youtube uproar, that came along with the cameras release. I'm on your side man, it's a great camera and I love shooting with it.

Part of the reason that this camera has a bad rap is not related to the S9 itself, but because Gerald Undone had something of a hissy fit over the fact that he wasn't invited to the launch of the S9 in Japan. So people started accusing Panasonic of just having a bunch of youtube shills raving about their products. Truth be told, they just do the same thing that Sony, Nikon, Canon and (to a lesser extent) Fuji do. Just Gerald got miffed at that, and people took it out on the camera. Having siad that, when Panasonic launched the camera, I thought they should have invited less camera reviewers to the launch, and more lifestyle vloggers, as that would be more the audience for the camera. I think, ultimately, the best marketing move by Panasonic would be to get the S9 in the hands of vloggers who are popular but still shoot on their iPhones or whatever so that those influencers can spread the word to others about how good it is to use the S9. Oh, also there was a lot of dislike for the kit lens that came with the S9, and a lot of people were upset that at the time of launch, Panasonic didn't have many (any???) small, lightweight lenses that were fast(ish) and of good quality. Sorry this is rambiling. Just, go out and enjoy your camera, no matter what you shoot with!

@@marinrealestatephotography The craziest thing is, I have yet to see any “influencers” or “tiktokers” or “social media” type individuals talking about the camera or using it. Obviously I saw all the KZbinrs that went to Japan, camera users.. But aside from that I’ve only seen Japanese YT camera users, and Panasonic users that wanted a second body. This proposed niche of Tiktokers using it, I just haven’t seen. It’s definitely a pro-level camera. If I left my S5ii at home on accident, but I had my S9… I wouldn’t worry one bit.

@@TopshelfJuniorExcellent point, Sir! This is definitely not a camera for beginners, no way, the ones who bought it know perfectly why they have purchased it for no small money. I am one of them and almost none of the advertised marketing points were applicable to my case. To me this is a brutally powerful camera with advanced features, 99% of regular KZbinr intellectually wouldn’t even be able to understand these features.

@@marinrealestatephotographyA major reason I purchased the S9 was the availability of the fantastic, gorgeous-looking Signa compact L-mount prime lenses 17, 20, 24, 35, 45, 50, 65, 90. A dream collection! When I fist saw the Panasonic S9 announcement, I cried with delight: yes this is the perfect camera for these brilliant Sigma lenses that I’ve been waiting for 10 years. Sigma unconsciously designed this lens collection in anticipation of the arrival of S9.

@@doogieham It's not my settings, not my lut. It's available to the public on the Lumix Lab app. I didn't modify the existing photo styles, I just used the LUT as-is. When you're in "REAL TIME LUT", the lut from Lumix Lab already selects the color profile that the lut is based on, and you're good to go. If you want to adjust how strong it is, or you want to add grain, or you want to put ANOTHER lut on top of the first one, or you want to change hue / color / saturation / sharpness, you can. I didn't do any of that tho...I just left it as is.

Lord mercy, I was stunned to read these are SOOC, the color grades are so good! Someone has got a strong LUT game I guess. These are wonderful photos of my dad's childhood hood from the 1940s (beachfront Ocean Park, actually). The No viewfinder thing is so fascinating, because right now I can't imagine shooting without one; yet in the past I have had cams without them and it was zero issue (people are adaptable); and I've had cams with crappy optical viewfinders and so even with them, I didn't use them....
@TopshelfJunior

Copy that ! Hear you loud and clear on the viewfinder / or lack thereof. You're right, people adapt, and with repetition comes comfort ! I haven't lifted the camera up to my eye once, I knew what it was from the start. S/O to Venice, and your dad's old hood. Venice is always dope to be around. In terms of the images being SOOC, yeah...the lut is pretty dope. It's on the Lumix Lab app for anybody to use. It's called Streetwise. Thanks for watching man !
