I took pictures of my re-chromed and installed trunk lock and gas filler door emblem but there’s no way to share them here. The emblem should be painted red, white and blue from left to right once you turn it over.
@jonbullock921910 күн бұрын
I’m afraid you will have to find a trunk lock bezel at a junkyard. Places like Eklers and Autokrafters have the lock and pad for the bezel.

far as i know , early 289/302 has one piece fuel pump eccentric ,later model has 2 piece eccentric the locating tang may be broken or misplaced , remove mechanical fuel pump and try elec pump it may stop making noise , put a fuel press gauge on it and see if its steady, could be lifter, galled or cracked rocker arm , rocker hitting stud ?
@ScrapyardRescue3 ай бұрын
This has the one piece eccentric, I changed out the fuel pump with the one from the other car so eliminating that problem. Swapped out the distributor and the noise seems to have gone away.
@John_11243 ай бұрын
Is there a pushrod for the fuel pump? If so, perhaps the rod or cam lobe is chipped or broken leaving a gap and a knock.

I believe I have found it, changed the distributor and the noise seems to have gone.

@jesseduke6943 ай бұрын
I know engines & i can hear the noise but im not sure what to tell you? There are many things i could mention but im assuming you are not very experienced with engines & diagnosing them? I will say this, rod knocks (spun bearings) usually are not perfectly consistent with the engine. What i mean is u can rev it up & let it come down & if a rod is knocking someqhere in the rpm cycle it will go away momentarly but then come back. Almost to make you believe the problem went away but then suddenly returns. The harmonics balance out for a moment somtimes & the rod finds a happy place & rides along. But becomes very unhappy above or below that rpm. So if it seems like it is knocking & you rev it & maybey it stops for a moment but then comes right back, you probably have a spun rod bearing. Idk who assembled this engine weather you or a shop? But journals on a crankshaft & the bore of the rod are very important & take precision tools to check correctly. So if you have a rod & sombody simply looks at it with their eyes & says its ok, becouse they looked at it, they are full of shit! That bore has a spacific size it is sapposed to be & a window of tolerance wich is allowed to still be ok. & it is sapposed to be perfectly round. This is what happens to rods when they have served a long hard life. If you torque the caps down on the rod & measure the bore with a proper bore guage that has a accuracy of .0001wich is a tenth of a thousandth, that is how to properly check them. And the tolerance aloud may vary from one engine to another but without looking it up i will say its probably around .0004 to .0008 of a inch tolorance. So if is out of round anything more than that they should be machined & trued up. And that tolerance is less than one thousandths. A human hair is two to three thousandths thick. So take the thickness of a human hair, now cut the thickness into 3 equal parts take one of those thicknesses & your tolorance on your rod bores are less than that & nobody can look with their eye balls & see if that is ok or not! So if you had your crank ground & its all good & you got the proper bearings for it but just bolted the old rods on, you might still have had a problem?? Idk if you checked things like that or not?? So its hard for me to suggest what it might be? Good luck to you my freind. I hope u stick to it & get it running like it should be & get to enjoy many miles.
@ScrapyardRescue3 ай бұрын
Well thank you for the advice and your input, also thank you for watching my videos. I finally seemed to have sloved the problem, apparently the gears on the distributor I installed weren't meshing with the gear on the cam. I installed the original distributor and the noise went away.

put a long pipe on the valve cover and listen see if its hitting. Listen to the oil pan. could be the dounut gasket on the exhaust. Is the bell housing tight. Hard for me to tell from my computer seat. run it on the stand. does it sound like that with the valve covers off? Run it with the covers off.

Checked all that, only place I hear noise is from the timing cover, water pump and distributor area. Pulled the water pump and timing cover the other day and couldn't find a problem.

i'm not a 100 mi round trip, only a few miles- but one of the reasons I always buy extra when i do go into town haha. The small gas station down the road from you probably buys the cheap stuff without additives to burn that stuff off and keep things clean. Bring a 5 gallon gas can or two with you every time you go to town and have a storage tank at home. do that every time you go to town and eventually you'd be able to keep a full reserve tank at home to use when you need 🙂

That state can't even maintain the forests correctly to stop the constant fires. How much toxins are released into the air as compared to a state like Arkansas that maintain their brush, log their trees and use the lumber instead of letting it all burn every year ?
