Perhaps the charity shops have become wise to people like you buying to resell and have upped their prices accordingly
@PinkPeachFinds3 сағат бұрын
@PatRussell-u2p What’s so interesting about this is the idea that charity shops would raise their prices to…stop (??) resellers. Demonstrating their dislike for the idea of anyone but themselves making profit on items they have had donated for free. I speak to a lot of charity shop managers and, of course, they are aware people resell - they’re not silly - they know exactly what happens. BUT, what the really good charity shops do is actually play to the reseller market, instead of trying to outprice them. They capitalise on the stream of people buying regularly. Most of the charity shops I head to are happy to see me, know what I do and love it when I come in and spend money. Those who raise the prices are in the minority. However, SOME charity shops, would rather up their prices and miss the stream of resellers purchasing to stop anyone else from benefiting. For context on this, last year I spent approx. £10,000 in charity shops - averaging £800-£1000 a month - research shows the average person (buying for themselves) spends £13 a month - £156 a year. One charity states that £5 buys 100 gloves to help researchers - that’s 200,000 gloves for researchers that I (as just one reseller) contributed to buying in 2023 … but, some charity shops would rather this not happen because they’re concerned I would make money on the items. By feeding this obsession on the prices to make sure resellers can’t buy to sell - they cut a huge chunk of their market and a huge cut of the money going to their charities whilst also demonstrating the real intent of SOME charities - to make money as a business to pay their senior management and not for their charity. The process of attempting to outpricing resellers punishes everyone - resellers will stop buying and charity shops will be left with £156 a year from the average buyer - rather than the (example) £10,000. This is a problem that charity shops can address and underlines the problem in their response to people buying for less than they sell. My final point would be that buying lower than you sell is an age-old process - resellers are not new - SOME charity shops have just got greedier. To re-iterate most of the charity shops I go to are happy to see me, know what I do and love it when I come in and spend money. Those who raise the prices and then blame resellers - are in the minority. TLDR: some charity shops raise prices to deter resellers, despite knowing they exist. I would argue that smarter charity shops embrace resellers, who spend much more than average buyers. By raising prices, these shops hurt themselves financially and reveal a profit-driven motive rather than supporting their charity's cause. Last year, I spent £10,000 at charity shops - resellers contribute more to charity than regular buyers, yet some shops prioritise stopping them over maximising funds for the charity. Most shops, however, welcome resellers.

@@PinkPeachFinds yes we have been to Matlock a few times,,, do you think they have put prices up because of re sellers I do personally,, sorry don't mean to offend,
@PinkPeachFindsКүн бұрын
@julieryan1616 no need to worry about offending me 😊 I think it's a really interesting point - it's very interesting that *some* charity shops have chosen to raise their prices because they don't like the thought of someone else benefiting from items they get for free. I visit 100s of charity shops a month and the good ones see the market of resellers and play to it...by lowering prices, they make more money from resellers who in turn make some more profit by selling on. I have lots of fruitful conversations with charity shop managers who know that people resell and then price to get us buying. Last year, I spent almost £10,000 in charity shops - about £800-£1000 a month - yes, I made profit from that...but, the average person spends £13 a month in a charity shop - £156 a year. By trying to out price resellers, charity shops demonstrate their greed and often their true nature - which isn't to make money for their charities but to be businesses that pay their senior management instead. I regularly visit charity shops who are incredibly grateful when I spend - who know who I am and what I do - and know I will spend money supporting them. Those who don't see the value that resellers bring cut their nose off to spite their face - and punish everyone in the process. Again, no need to worry about offending me ♥️♥️

@PinkPeachFinds16 күн бұрын
@Dorothy-t9b thanks for your comment! Let me clear, I never said I expected anyone to provide me with a bag!!! That would be ludicrous! However, it is common that someone might give you a bag if you ask. If you listen closely, I actually said I overheard the first chap say he had no bags - which, if you also heard, I also said was absolutely fine. At no point did I expect a bag! Further, if you watch the clip closely, you'll also see I went back to the car and got a bag! Thanks again for your comment!

I don't sell a great deal on there! But, it's useful to have as another platform. I don't find there's much foot traffic personally, even with my IG account cross promoting, BUT I get the occasional sale on there. There's no upfront insertion fees - only a fee once you've sold, so it makes sense just to upload items there as well. This is compared to Etsy who have a monthly fee to list per item - which I'm not a fan of! eBay is where I do most sales ❤

In Sherwood one of the free car parks is located on Winchester Street, its 2 minutes walk to the charity shops. The Sherwood charity shops are overpriced, highly likely your profit margin will shirk a lot if you shop there, very lucky to have found one item. There is absolutely loads of free parking in Sherwood. I have lived in Sherwood for over 30 years and have never had a problem parking. There are at least 3 free good sized car parks. I also find lots of things to buy in Sherwood’s charity shops and find the shops there to be better than Arnold and also Mapperley which is about the same distance away. I think you must have gone on a poor shopping day.
@PinkPeachFinds2 ай бұрын
@jenniferdirckze8587 thanks so much for your comment! My reference was specifically for parking directly outside shops - for ease of transporting purchases - and to avoid repeated trips to and from the car. We definitely drove around a lot on the day looking for that type of parking - we must have driven up and down the high street 4-5 times. But, it is good to know there's free parking for others! 💜 It's also great to hear that you've got lots of goodies in Sherwood before - it's so interesting that you can turn up one day and the finds just not be there! Again, thanks your comment - it's always useful to hear other people's thoughts! ❤️
