Both these teams ended up in the same sub-regional that year in Detroit (UC as a #3, XU as a #7) but neither one made it out of there, with UC losing to Iowa State and XU losing to UCLA.

This was Xavier's best ever basketball team. Even their Elite 8 teams in 2008 and 2017 didn't even come close to as good as this team. They were screwed by the referees in the final 12 minutes of this game and still almost won.

All of America was rooting for Xavier in this game....nobody likes Duke other than spoiled brat people who were born with a silver spoon...

This was my XU team, my sophomore year on the squad, ACL surgery sidelined me. Ohio State had great guard play, we beat them and Nebraska with Dave Hoppen, then Michigan who finally won it all.

Nebraska's best team ever. 2nd berth ever. In search of 1st tournament win. Tv experts said they got a bad draw, that this was a very good Xavier team for a 14 seed. Brian Grant. Nebraska had no tournament experience. It would be like putting Wyoming in the Final Four just for fun, they're never good in basketball like that.😫This game still haunts me. They could have given Nebraska a worse 14 seed, c'mon
@MDK3843 ай бұрын
nothing like being a 3 seed and drawing a 14 seed from a one bid conference that just so happens to have 2 future 10+ year NBA bigs, a bunch of senior guards who had tons of previous tournament experience, and coached by pete gillen. tough draw indeed
How did UC’s bench did not get thrown out of the game? They left it twice @39:30 and @30:50. Someone explain. This was a definite precursor to 2011’s shootout.
@UncleBen-h2y11 ай бұрын
I wish a coach would have the guts to run the LM system today!!! With a lineup of 6’5” to 6’9” guys who can run and shoot would be exciting. 7’ players are not necessary in today’s game.

Kenyon Martin athletic abilities was truly remarkable! & his physique was super amazing 🤩 those coiled muscles he had. If he didn't get that bad injury in college im his 4th year he would of played 50 times better when he went into the "NBA"! I still have all three of his New Jersey Nets jerseys which I keep proudly 🦚. This man was phenomenal!!!!!!
