Are you still crafting on your Power Shop? I've been eyeballing one.

I remember these well, wanted one as soon as the ads came out and got it for my 9th birthday. They were pricey at the time, $16 in 1965. I used the shit out of it, mostly the lathe and disc sander as the stamped steel flat drill bits weren't the most effective, neither we're those jigsaw blades that were basically a twisted/roughened wire made of some hardened steel that would break easily. The whole tool overall was really well built, think those motors would run forever. Made a lot of stuff on it and it most definitely cut more than just balsa. I still remember the TV ads, "Not just plastic or balsa, but real wood!" Certainly a more productive toy then, than some video game today!

You would be a big help if you or someone you know scans every page of the manual and makes a link available. There are tons of kits like this or similar DIY kits with everything but a manual.

I actually don’t have access to a scanner right now but I do have a plan in the works for getting those scans and uploading them because that is a really good idea I appreciate it

I received a Mattel Power Shop for Christmas in the 1960s; best and most useful toy I ever owned. Worked well enough cutting pine, but I never did much woodworking until after I grew up. In the decades prior to specialized variable speed hobby tools, I used the toy for many years cutting and sanding plastic. Though the motor actually spins too fast for plastic, I found it was possible to cut and sand reasonably well if a very fine grit sandpaper is applied to the sanding disk and the material is fed very slowly into the jigsaw blade and sanding disk. Have fun with your new toy!

I honestly enjoy having a project to pull it out and use. I've never thought about using it to sand plastic but I definitely will

@@renewed7809 At the time I used the Mattel Power Shop for sanding thin pieces of styrene plastic, there were no variable speed tool alternatives. You will find that the speed of the motor will heat and melt the plastic along the contact point. The melted plastic is easily removed but the edge won't be as clean as what can be produced with a modern variable speed tool available today. I would recommend limiting the toy's use to cutting and sanding wood as the manufacturer intended.

Do you still have the power shop? I bought one at an auction, it still has all the pieces except for two sanding sticks and the patterns for the lathe!!😃😃😃 I'm hoping that you still have it and might be willing to make a copy of the patterns and send them to me. I want to give it to my grandlings, and if they like it I may get them a few more tools, get them interested in making stuff!

@@renewed7809 Excellent! First, what are they made of? Like an extra heavy poster board? Perhaps you could place them on a piece of graph paper and take a picture of it, or as you said, trace them out and send them to me. I would happily pay any postage necessary.

I can definitely trace them out as I don't have any graph paper. But they seem to be a heavy cardboard originally.
