@ democracy is literally people-ruling, from the Greek words demos, meaning people, and kratia, meaning ruling. Ruling people is the antithesis of freedom. QED (which stands for “quod erat demonstrandum”, a Latin phrase meaning “which was to be demonstrated.”)

The Glenwood Canyon I-70 highway was eventually built. Construction of the highway took twelve years to complete. It began in 1980 and was completed in 1992. It was a very difficult design to layout and build without upsetting the natural elements of the canyon. It is nonetheless a real nice drive both eastbound and westbound with a decent rest stop in between. John Denver tried to have the project canceled but his efforts failed.

If Sonny had been involved in a sport like swimming with those arms and hands and taught as a child, with his cardio, he would have been a champion as well in that sport. Be interesting to know the size of his feet.

One of My favorite boxers of All Time. RIP Sonny Liston 🙏🥊
@MajikBoxx
@MajikBoxx Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this upload: Charles 'Sonny' Liston was one of the greatest HWs of all time and fought every top contender in his era. His technical skills were later overlooked after the genuine, totally unexpected 1st loss to Clay. Imagine the aura of late prime Tyson but back in the late '50s-early 60s and multiply it, e.g., when being harassed by Philly police on one occasion, Liston when being struck by a policeman with a nightstick, disarmed the policeman and deposited him upside down in a dumpster. He also disarmed another officer attacking him and relieved him of his gun and nightstick (obviously he was eventually arrested on both occasions). He was said to be able to lift the front of a Ford pickup truck and on at least one occasion, Liston broke all of an opponent's front teeth during a boxing match. The second fight with Ali was a fix (even though Liston would probably still have lost) but he is still probably top 5 (IMO): the only person who could have beaten him pre-1967 was Ali (Clay at the time). Liston had a very difficult childhood and adult life and was always misrepresented in a one-dimensional fashion, especially when compared to Ali and his form of humour. Yet, as seen here, Liston's quips and humour were more nuanced e.g., when Liston had enough of being harassed by police in Philly he infamously said, "I'd rather be a lamppost in Denver than the mayor of Philadelphia!" Liston was known to stay away from cameras due to media stereotyping so only through further research and videos like this do you get an idea of his humour and some of his other viewpoints directly. He even made a funny TV ad for an airline with none other than pop-art 'icon' Andy Warhol; playing up his image of being sullen. Liston's biography, 'Night Train' is an interesting read.

Liston was a thug. But the reason he was a thug was evidenced on his back, where the scars from his father's bullwhip were still visible. Sonny got a raw deal from the get go.

I would't call him a thug. He was to nice to be a thug. He was just talented fighter caught up in a white man's world. I think of thug as someone who snatches a purse rather than someone who manhandles 3 policeman at the same time while putting one 'upside down in a trashcan'.

A real treat hearing him speak casually. I wish the host had opened him a up a bit more at a few points, but he had a limited time. Those who knew Sonny said that he was a decent guy when he didn't feel threatened or defensive. I suppose that also includes if he wasn't pissed off or coming to teach you a lesson sent by his managers. (The camera distorts things a bit, but those hands are amazing.)
