Never heard mangroves called black snapper, looked like some fun fishing. Tight lines
@TaylorCarter10 күн бұрын
Yeah mangroves aren’t truly black snapper, they’re technically Gray Snapper but they’re commonly referred to as black snapper around Destin for whatever reason.

How waterproof is that pack? Is it as waterproof as dyneema ? Did you ever have it in a long downpour ? I am considering buying this pack but am concerned about the waterproofness.

Hey, I'm planning to do this hike this upcoming weekend! Did y'all have to make a reservation for the primitive walk in campsites or not? My plan is to camp at rock creek on night 1 and the challenge campsite on night 2

Hi Taylor. Well done for making it to Harper's Ferry. I've section-hiked the trail for many years and have made to that point. In 2020, I hope to hike Maryland and PA (but might not due to the uncertainty of the virus). Will look forward to watching more of your videos! God Bless!!

Hi Taylor. I watched and enjoyed your video of this section. Background: I lived in Birmingham in the 90s, and day hiked each section of the Pinhoti Trail, as it existed prior to my moving to the Atlanta area. Then, it was from the trailhead on AL 77, between Talladega and Ashland up to somewhere north of US 278 east of Piedmont, AL (If I remember right). At that time, it was not in GA. Blazes: The blazes existed (Pinhoti symbol vs. Blue rectangular blaze) through the new Cheaha Wilderness at that time. The Odum, Chinabee, and Nubbin Creek trails were ALL blazed properly in those days. I then read that the Forest Service decided to blot out the blazes for those trails in the wilderness. The Pinhoti was hard enough to follow in those days, as one went south by trail from McDill Point to the intersection with the Odum and Chinabee trails. This was especially true in the rocky area on that part. I can imagine how bad it is now. As a long-time hiker on the AT (have made it 1000 miles thus far), I have walked thru many Forest Wilderness areas and the AT white blazes were still there and updated as needed. There was NO reason for the Talladega office to remove the blazes. The Wilderness act does not mandate such, as far as I know. Odum Trail: At one time, this was an awesome trail that intersected with the Pinhoti at Caney Head (I think that was right). In the 90s, there was actually a shelter there. It was later moved to a location on the Chinabee Trail. I've heard that the Odum and equally-nice Nubbin Creek trails have fallen into disrepair because of the desire of the Talladega office to make them more "wild". VERY unfortunate mis-guided policy. I welcome other's comments. God Bless

Taylor, excellent and thorough review. Thank you so much! I'm also 5'8" and have been contemplating the long wide. I actually had a long wide Nemo for a short while but both of the ones I tried (bought new) would not hold air through the night. Your comments convinced me to go with a large pad again.

When you arc the bag, does the top of the pack rest against your shoulder blades? The reason I ask is I had the Gregory Paragon and it did exactly that. Which then started to rub and create a painful spot on my shoulders. I am considering the arc haul seriously.

Really enjoyed your video. Love that area's trails. You should do a little yo-yo of the Odum Scout trail. Starts at High Falls. It's a little rough at the start, up and over the falls, but once you get clear it's a slow incline up to that intersection you showed. If it's rained any in the last month, there should be water up at the intersection spring. A few really nice vistas too. Also, I agree with the blaze thing. It is stupid not to have any available in confusing spots, at least.

Hi. Please see my comments above regarding the Odum trail and lack of blazes in general. Thanks!

Why am I watching a two year old video? Because Chance favors the prepared mind! I am absorbing information just in case I make an attempt. I am much older than you and will probably close to Grandma Gatewood's age when she did her first through hike. You did this video much different than today's vloggers. It brought back happy memories of watching Gary Cooper's travelogues when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing the information. John from MI.

Excellent video. I love the stopping for a beer parts. Relax, have a home brew! I like my beer too. What's nice is that you used it for months and I can tell that you could find your items int he dark since you used them every day. You just nailed it. "If you're watching this video before a through hike, you're actually ahead of the game than a lot of other people out there." But man oh man; Do me a favor. Put the beer glass on a different surface than your pack that you are flinging around. I was expecting the glass to get knocked off but I can see that beer is very important to you because NOT ONCE did you hit your glass. Thank you for the informative and excellent info. John from MI

I really enjoyed your review of this bag and your sense of humor. I am thinking about replacing my 2006 Lowe Alpine pack since it weighs over 4 lbs and the inside coating is starting to flake off. But again very great detailed review of this bag and the accessories that you can put on it. I think this bag is hard to beat.
