Still to this day cannot believe they just demolished the Esplanade?? Surly the facade was listed like the pavilion They have kept the facade of the recently demolished Porthcawl hotel and that looks awful.

Sadly the history of Porthcawl has been shaped by fraud for over 100 years, few if any suspected any wrongdoing had & was being done. A chap called sir TG Jones KBE started it, King George V intervened in 1930, issued a decree and maps that no one had seen for over 90 years, at this point many laugh and think “what rubbish “ and that’s what many beneficiaries shout on social media “ RUBBISH!!” But the information or evidence is irrefutable, sadly too complicated other than for those who love detective dramas , also too long to fit into posts or videos, but here’s just one of many on the subject found on my channel 🤝 Give this one a view 🙏🏻 you could generate a podcast from the information in it 🤔 it never got many views, yet contains much of what anyone needs to form a firm opinion, the on thing I had to redact was Pounders name, but am sure his signature will be recognised 😉. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6i0YoiepMhjbZYsi=plrupbNkKymmHCbQ

Thank you so much. I live in Porthcawl now and think it is the best place in the world. Moved here 10 years ago, after having a caravan on "Trecco" for 10 years before that, and would not want to go anywhere else. I have to say though that its a shame those lovely old buildings have gone and been replaced by eye-sores like the "bottle bank". I really wish I had been born here ad remembered it as it was.

Wow look at that I’d almost forgotten that place, I’ve been so distracted by the monstrosity that’s now stood in its place, today I notice the streets bar has been knocked down and I’m waiting for the Pier hotel next. Completely changing the character of Porthcawl.

Me and my mate from Swansea drove up one night in the 80s to see the night life we ended up outside a night club called G Gs i walked in and the doorman stopped my mate because he did not have a shirt on with a collar. So rather than drive back to Swansea we drove around until we got to this council estate with clothes still hanging on the line my mate got out of the car legged it across 2 gardens and pulled a soaking wet shirt off the line he put it on we went back to the club and he got in . This is a true story we just couldnt keep away from the night clubs always on the pull with the girls we were a double act if i couldnt pull them he could to my mate Jeff who now lives in another country i love you to bits mate what a time to be alive

@@stevenlatcham2934 Yes I remember now. Thought it a shame it was burnt down. Wales was an eye opener for many people from England. I moved to Wig Fac around 1980 after staying some months in Bridgend coming from an area where pubs had to close at 2.30 pm in the afternoon and 10.30pm at night strict, to where they were open almost all day.

When I grew up in the 70s and 80s in North Cornelly, we had two lovely little towns nearby, Porthcawl and Bridgend. Porthcawl, far quieter than those days, remains a really pleasant place to be but it breaks my heart to see how run down Bridgend has become. Years ago I taught the daughter of the former owners of the Stoneleigh Club. By then they were living in Essex.

@@stevenlatcham2934 Well, you had already included hotels such as the Marine and the (closed) Pier. Knights Arms would have been worth a mention? OK long since closed and derelict, but one of the town's best known / most notorious haunts. Porthcawl Hotel, OK, also closed and being developed. The Beer Shop on Lias Road, (has a popular bar). The Lorelei Hotel, recently sadly recently closed. Did more trade as a pub than a hotel. Atlantic Hotel, has bar. Fairways Hotel, (temporarily closed), has bar. Seabank Hotel, has bar. Dockside Grill, has bar. Brentwood / Heartbreak Hotel, has bar. Jonny G's bar, Nottage. And I don't see why the United Services Club & RAFA Club wouldn't merit a mention? They now have open public access I believe, and a lot of people go there. Possibly others that I have forgotten to mention? I also grew up in Porthcawl, I think there's probably only 5 places on your video / my list that I haven't drunk in.
@stevenlatcham2934 Жыл бұрын
@@MagnusMaximusinWales No you are on a diffrent wave length the Video is to do with the existing pubs in the town, The marine is not a hotel any more. Most people have enjoyed this video and no complaints, Maybee I should do a video about the lost pubs and hotels of Porthcawl. Never mind it's not for everyone.
@MagnusMaximusinWales Жыл бұрын
@@stevenlatcham2934 Not a complaint, just my observations. I'm just being pedantic but, as it seems to have slipped by you, I'd reiterate that the Pier is in the video. It was a hotel. It is closed. And Yes, the lost pubs, hotels & perhaps restaurants of Porthcawl would be interesting! Breaksea & Maid of Sker, (both now nursing homes). Esp. Dirty Duck. Victoria Inn. Apollo. Stoneleigh. Westward Ho. Glamorgan Holiday Home. The Rest What was the name of that hotel / bar on Mary Street? Opposite the Brentwood but a bit further away from the sea-front.
