We are not alone in this: there are a number of Ruthenian Greek-Catholic priests in the US who wear high-backs, as well as at St Elias Ukrainian GC parish in Brampton, Ontario. There is some evidence that this cut of phelonion is actually older than the "Greek-style." For example, they wear them on Mount Athos!

But in my mind, they were associated with "Russian" Liturgy, and their presence in this "Ukrainian" Liturgy was a bit surprising for me. Most Byzantine parishes around the world (whether Catholic or Eastern Orthodox) celebrate the Easter Vigil on Saturday morning, just like the Latins (which, in my opinion, is not such a great thing). To celebrate it on Saturday evening is much better. Congratulations ! Plus, the Divine Liturgy of saint Basil is beautiful.
