Good timing, friend just bought a Bailey with Alde heating, running off-grid with flashing display indicating flat battery, there are no videos about power consumption off grid with heaters and how many panels would be needed to keep system running, now learnt to switch off when not in use, it only has sealed lead acid batteries and one solar panel. Thanks for sharing

You're unfamiliar with the area, but there are free toilets round the front of the cafe you pass as you walk into the park area. You only see the rear of the cafe, but if you walk past the ice cream kiosk, and right around the front, you'll find the toilets right at the end. You can make a donation for the upkeep of the toilet block if you wish, although it's free to get in.... Most of the toilet blocks in the Lake District towns have been sold off by the local authority, and are now owned privately. Hence the ever increasing prices...

Yes, the Lake District is much busier these days, having gained World Heritage status. Around 18 million people a year visit now..... Living here, I avoid it like the plague. I head over to North Yorkshire for my relaxation with scenery.....Nice little villages, often with a tea shop, and plenty of places to park.. Back in the late 50's and 60's, there weren't 64 million people living in Britain.....

@IntrepidIresons Hi...what power/current limit did you program into the DC2DC charger to limit the power taken from the car. I'm thinking 13A? as the fuse is 15A...TIA
@IntrepidIresons26 күн бұрын
You can only do whole numbers, 5,10,20,30 etc. If youre getting permanently fitted panels and they're generating it splits the charge between two, so 10 is 5car and 5 solar. I put it at 20 during the day and 10 at night.

@IntrepidIresons thanks for that..imlooking at the victron kit and O don't think they do a combined mppt & dc2dc converter so they would have to be seperate feeds to the battery..so only 125w panel through the mppt direct to the battery then the same 12v feed off the fuse box to the dc2dc...so it would have to be 10A unless the victron can be set to intermediate A values...thoughts?
@IntrepidIresons26 күн бұрын
@deanswan6109 I looked at victron too. Only suitable DCDC I could see was the Orion 12|9 and then have to get the separate mppt. Not only less amps, more boxes and wiring but also a lot more expensive and separate apps.

@IntrepidIresons Thanks for the clarification on the wiring setup...I like the idea of minimal changes to the van (means you can reinstate the old system and move your new system to another van etc). Personally, I would of wired the PSU/charger back into the 12v distribution network and maybe fitted the new PSU/charger in place of the old and stored away the old one for reinstatement. Your videos have been a great help in "how to DIY" your own system. I will have further Q's but thanks again.

I'll do one tomorrow, if you're not already if you turn on subs and notifications you should be pinged. But all negatives are joined together, the solar and the battery. I've taken an easy feed from the motor mover negative. Have to remember negatives are always connected, it's the lives that are isolated/ fused. Look out for the video and it'll show tomorrow.
