I have a tonnnn of camera gear that I like to mess around with. Way more than is needed, that's for sure! If you are talking about streaming physical games - my suggestion is to start with your phone or a cheap webcam. Hardest part is figuring out a way to mount it, so start there.

Great playthrough. Such a cliffhanger in the end :) it is fun to see you both to play. I think the biggest broken rule is on 1:27:14 when on a specific mythos card you did advance the Cthtulhu track but haven't shaffled mythos cards together (card acts as collecting 3 red signs. Super bad as the first mythos card yet light if there are already 2 red signs out) as well you executed all the advanced elder rules after the mythos phase rather than at the end of turn. It made your game a bit harder, though not that it matters with your live fast die young play ;)
@oppcostАй бұрын
Yeah, I felt a little uncertain about that how to resolve that card - felt prettttty certain I was doing it incorrectly, but wanted to keep the playthrough moving.

AFAIK, you can out your dice on Raider's Outpost even if other player's dice are there. You just need to put a bigger sequence. If he had 234 than you can replace with 345 or 456. Here is a quote: "If the Raiders’ Outpost is occupied, you may dock a higher-value sequence here and move the original ships to the Maintenance Bay."

We are just finishing Oathsworn. We are half way through chapter 20. We play one evening a week. The story for each chapter + the encounter is too long to do both in one night. This has greatly lengthened the time to get where we are. In general, the quality is fairly good. The biggest thing to remember is that if you have a miss on a check or combat, you get all empowerment tokens used back + an extra one of your choice in compensation.

You did the Guard dog wrong in round 1. You look at Range 0. There was no one there. Then you look at Range 1, if there is someone there, you resolve that. You only look to earliest in turn order if there are two people in range 1. There was not. Guard dog should have moved and attacked Nobleman.

Oh man you forgetting the whale bonus was bugging me you were gonna get an annoyed comment from me until you noticed. Around The 2 hour mark you decided against playing whirlwind because you thought you'd take the damage from guardian multiple times, but the Guardian passive says after playing an attack, not after dealing damage. Ww may have been one of the best possible cards for that turn lol

hi there - Thank you so much for the coverage and glad you guys found the cards and, congrats on your escape! totally hear you on the rough edges of the rulebook specifically the components list was embarrassing =( Though we have corrected the components list and provided a downloadable replacement sheet with an updated components list. the BGG listing has some other resources related to some rules clarifications. I promise, we did our best to get this rulebook to do the best job it could, had copy editors, read and re-read, and tried to edit a great deal but we definitely learned some lessons on this release. if we ever do a reprint we will fix all this stuff. thanks again for playing!!

So glad you found our video! We first-time games on stream, and rules errors / ambiguities happen a lot. Setting it up and experiencing it on stream can actually be pretty stressful, and I tend to be pretty critical about it at times.. That said, Black mold was a game with a thematic gimmick that totally works and adds to immersion - I LOVE that. It's definitely staying in my collection, but a second edition with a bit of streamlining would be amazing. Some of your other games, Token Terrors and Valka, are on the shelf of opportunity, so we will get to those one of these days...

Excellent breakdown. You speak to a lot of qualities of the game that I think are missing in other analysis channels. Your attention to detail doesn’t feel so in-depth that it’s plodding, but it also doesn’t skimp on the important information that make me want to play/own this game. I really look forward to more breakdowns like this!!! ❤

I've played Illumination 3-4 times. The game is excellent, but I find it very hard to sell to my boardgaming group, due to the artwork specifically. A game about medieval manuscripts with childlike artwork comes out as jarring to them. Those who enjoy history and the Middle Ages were delighted with The Road to Canterbury, but couldn't get into Illumination; they expected a more historical style. And those who would appreciate the artwork weren't interested in the theme. Having listened to Alf's interview, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it looks like deep down the author didn't agree with the publisher's choice. He insists that his prototype (which used historical artwork) was not definitive, which makes me think that he's trying to appease people who complained (I know some did on BGG). Anyway, I know that designing, publishing and selling boardgames is not an easy job, and they know better than anyone what they were going for and whether they succeeded, but I dream of a fusion between Deus lo Vult (perfect artwork, unfinished game) and Illumination (excellent gameplay, discouraging artwork)😅

Game publisher Adam here. Thank you for such a fresh take on a board game review! Love your thoughtful comments on the reasons many abstract games struggle and that you've landed on the word "Harmony" as a descriptor. That validates our design goals! Glad you liked the game obviously, and I am now a sub too! Also appreciated the mathematical breakdowns in the afterthoughts! We did have a programmer help with large-scale simulations and made some game design decisions to understand the first player move advantage in theory. Also noting the component quality issues you saw on your copy and sorry that happened, but resourceful fix with the utility knife! Feel free to reach out if you need replacement components.

So glad you got a chance to see this. Truly excellent game, and the component issues really were minor. Only a few of the player pieces were affected, and only on corner pegs. I look forward to playing more of your games!

I like your review style and I will remain a subscriber. Now, that is saying something because I quickly tired of several of the other popular board game review channels. I felt they they felt obligated to crank out lots of reviews and just seemed to be going through the motions. I like that you give me a good, quick, substantial feel for the game and then some food for thought. The afterthoughts is a good way of adding the more nuance with unnecessary lengthening the review.

I ordered this game and I am w8ting to arrive! my father is a great chess player but most boardgames turn him off with complicated rules. but this is a game that I am 100% sure he will love it! there is another way to win the game, and is by complete all pegs on one pice. and there is an expansion of this game too, its a bit rare to find, but its about creatures of the pound with really nice illustrations and put rock as obstacles on the board. anyway, This game was greatelly overlooked by many, and feels like an instant classic.

your final thoughts were a huge surprise. After some thinking I think it was indeed better to avoid tile laying games. It should need some kind of discovery mechanism in DitD, so not lay the whole dungeon before playing.
