Michael, can we do this in CA? I want to
@MichaelJDowney22 жыл бұрын
Yes, Lauren, this is right in the center of CA. Not easy jumping through the hoops with the Bldg Dept, etc, but was so worth it, especially as I watch energy prices rise, and shortages, etc. Good luck to you!

@@MichaelJDowney2 ok, thanks, I am trying to do the same thing in the San Bernardino Mountains but they do not allow many things and I must connect to water. I will try my best to do what you do. I do not want to be connected to the grid.

What wonderful introduction of yourself in your presentation, thank-you for sharing.. My husband and I have somewhat similar story. We moved here June 2021. Fires were new to us and boy, to see the smoke so close! We're from the Orange County LA area. We also have put our music on the backburner as "life" has gotten in the way. Things have slowed down and after the holidays we'll get back on the saddle! Hope to see you around Michael! We just may look up the "meditation" at the library. Have a wonderful New Year!
@MichaelJDowney22 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words, Irene, and yes, a nice synchronicity. Moving here this past year has felt both like being embraced and tested at the same time... I think it's totally understandable that we put certain things on the back burner until those initial roots take hold and we can stand up, take a deep breath, look around, and then reach out. And yes, Vanessa and the small meditation group meets at the library on Thursdays at noon for an hour. Would love to have you drop in. All the best to you in this new year!

Thank you, Errol. I hear you. One thing I can say is that the Kern River Valley is blessed with its share of skilled tradespersons and, compared to where I'm moving from (Santa Cruz) they are surprisingly affordable. Wish you well in your search.

Awesome ! I have been pretty much doing the same along these lines. Since returning from Iraq I studied alternative building methods. Earthbag, geodesic Domes... rocket mass heating. I'm a Disabled vet but not down without a fight. I just wish I could accomplish completion and put in more time on my music. Anyway, my condolences on your father passing. It's good that you got to spend time together on your place. I reckon you are a mile or two from where I have my place, So Howdy Neighbor ! All the best ! Wulfy

Thank you , Erika. I know the feeling, there's no place like the Kern River Valley. And I can tell you, given the price of homes there, you could find a beautiful, existing home for much less than the $250K or so I spent on the land and building the home. Wishing you well in realizing that dream!

Thank you so much, Chuck. A labor of love, indeed, especially the week I was able to spend with Dad there. Don't mind telling you how much of 'Laguna Indigo', 'Velvet Morning', 'Society of Dreams' are infused into the walls of that home... Thank you, Jey. I tried finding a one-stop-shopping solar company first. Got three bids from companies in Bakersfield and Ridgecrest averaging around $50k. I ended up buying the components from shopsolarkits.com, had BSW Roofing (Bakersfield) install the panels, my electrician ran the conduit down to the back of the house, and I did the wiring of all the components and in to the main electrical panel of the house. Ended up at around $30k.

Good morning, @@Cody_Hiking_Kitty, glad to hear you might be our neighbor! The majority of the homes in the canyon have their own wells, some have entered into a well-share agreement, though. Engineering, plans, permits, and cost to install usually around $30-40K. Feel free to email - [email protected]

I wish the cd wasn't so expensive to get off Ebay:( Right now, there is one that is Buy It Now for $48.99. Any chance it could be re-released? Even if I bid on one that starts at no reserve, I get outbid. I would love to have this on cd. It's some of the best music of the 80's! I love all the tracks on the album, but Back In Your Arms is my favorite:) Damn Good Band! Thanks for posting:)

Thanks Michael!!!!:) If only I'd had the lyrics back then:) I've had hearing loss in my right ear since childhood,and though I try-I do get some lyrics wrong. It wasn't too far off though-huh? I still have the cassette of the album-and it still gets alot of play. Now I can really enjoy singing along now that I know the correct lyrics. Did ya have a good chuckle? I knew I was wrong,but it's hard to pick out in some rock songs. Thanks again! I'm subbing so I can keep track of your music:)
