From my 10 mins of searching for an answer my guess is a Actinodendron arboreum common name the tree anemone and Hell's Fire Anemone pretty interesting and hard to find accurate information on it just many people speaking in aww of it not as much info on how it works, where it originated from

They didn't freedive, they went in the air lock at the bottom and "escaped" upwards. And yes, I think that's it. The rescue submarines have obviated the need for submarine escape training.

How are the British submariners trained now? Do they still need to develop freediving skills, or did the rescue submarine make that a thing of the past? I would love to know. :D

Thanks! That was a great dive. 9kg weight if I remember, and no fins. It is hard to time when the diver has such a long breathhold and might choose to walk around the bottom of the tank! Also, you had to climb up on to the hatch to get back onto the rope.

Alas, it seems that the SETT is not long for this world. There are no longer any british submariners being trained there, and the few foreign navy trainings are dwindling. The facility might well be closed early 2009. Very sad.

My gods are they still doing trips to this tank? I was one of the first to go with Howard Jones about 10 years ago.30m seems so easy in there!!! Great to see.
